We’re pleased to share that NorthStar Impact has been named a Responsible Investment Leader for 2024 by Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA). It’s great recognition of the work we’re doing to lead impact investing in listed equities in Australia and demonstrate that intentional investing, collaborative engagement and transparent reporting, can lead to both positive impact outcomes and positive financial returns.
We are thrilled to share the Responsible Investment Leaders for 2024! RIAA uses a two-tiered approach to the assessment of responsible investors in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand based on RIAA’s Responsible Investment Scorecard. Approximately the top 20% of investment managers in the research universe are recognised as Responsible Investment Leaders. Responsible Investment Leaders are investment/asset managers that demonstrate: a commitment to responsible investing; the explicit consideration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in investment decision making; strong and collaborative stewardship; and transparency in reporting activity, including the societal and environmental outcomes being achieved. Being a Responsible Investment Leader recognises an investment manager’s whole of organisation attributes. Congratulations to all of our Responsible Investment Leaders! PFAS in Adams Creek, a Sydney water catchment, is now being reported to have 50x higher than the safe level mandated by Australian guidelines and 925x higher than the US drinking water regulations. Australian drinking water guidelines are currently under review. Australia has some of the leading PFAS remediation technology which needs to be deployed with urgency. NorthStar Impact are advocating for regulation to test and remediate PFAS in water and soil. https://lnkd.in/ge3giz5M

NorthStar recently hosted a webinar featuring Tim Lindley, Chair of Venture Minerals and James Clement, CEO of Vysarn, alongside Luke Fletcher, Director at mining research think tank, Jubilee Research Centre. The speakers discussed a new standard of responsibility in critical minerals and water supply, the distinct approaches being taken by VMS and Vysarn and the role investors like NorthStar can play in progressing responsible mining. We brought the speakers together as part of our Impact Alpha Webinar Series, which aims to connect and inform people from across our networks to encourage collaboration and action.

Sydney Water has confirmed for the first time that cancer-linked PFAS chemicals have been detected in Sydney’s drinking water. The SMH article reports that levels were found exceeding US enforceable thresholds. The widespread use of PFAS and its resilient qualities alongside evidence of its existence implies that PFAS is far more prevalent than what is currently being tested. I recently hosted a webinar on PFAS with two CEOs of ASX-listed companies (EGL AU and SDV AU) that have PFAS remediation technology alongside a PFAS lead litigator. It is clear that there is a need to test and remediate PFAS with urgency to ensure that the damage to people and planet can be mitigated. Some positive news from Control Bionics today. You can also read more about the incredible work they're doing in this OnImpact article: https://lnkd.in/gMSepr64
📢 We’re thrilled to announce a significant strategic milestone with the approval of a new US Insurance Code Approved for our flagship technology, the NeuroNode®. This pivotal approval means the NeuroNode® is now officially recognised as a reimbursable medical device in the US, opening doors to a US$4,300 reimbursement that was previously unavailable. What does this mean? Once this becomes effective on 1 October 2024: 🌟 It results in a material benefit to the business’ operations in the US. 🌟 Represents a substantial opportunity to expand our wholesale distribution model as part of our ‘NeuroNode® Only’ strategy. 🌟 Both Control Bionics and our US partners will be able to apply for this reimbursement for customers covered by Medicare and Medicaid, and we’ll also work to have it covered ‘in-network’ with private insurers. This milestone accelerates our growth trajectory and strengthens our commitment to improving lives through innovative assistive technology. We look forward to the opportunities this new approval will bring!
