We’re often asked: ‘What sets PainChek® apart from other pain assessment tools?’ PainChek® combines AI-driven analysis with user-guided features to accurately and consistently identify pain. It does this by assessing 42 proven pain-related indicators across six key areas: Face, Voice, Movement, Behavior, Activity, and Body. This thorough approach generates a nuanced pain profile for every individual, allowing for personalised treatment that delivers better outcomes at the individual, site, and organisational levels. Intelligent Pain Assessment
About us
PainChek® is transforming pain management to help give a voice to those who cannot verbalise their pain. PainChek® is the world’s first regulatory cleared medical device for the assessment of pain, enabling best-practice pain management for people living with pain in any environment, including those who cannot reliably self-report their pain, those who can, and those who fluctuate between the two. PainChek® has enabled best-practice management in 1500+ aged care facilities, with more than 5,000,000 digital pain assessments conducted to date, and is trusted by thousands of nurses, carers and clinicians. How PainChek® Works: During a PainChek® assessment, a camera-enabled smartphone or tablet is used to perform a real-time, AI driven analysis of the person’s face, recording micro expressions proven to be indicative of pain. The assessor’s clinical observations on pain related behaviours such as movement and voice are then recorded through an intelligently automated framework, standardising the observation format. This data is used to generate an overall pain rating – the key clinical output of the PainChek® assessment. All pain assessment data is stored securely and centrally via the cloud, and documented in PainChek®’s detailed reporting suite, PainChek® Analytics. This allows the caregiver to monitor the effect of medication and other non-pharmacological treatments over time. Using PainChek®, facilities can: * ensure greater consistency and continuity in pain management * streamline the pain assessment process for time-poor carers, with access to the PainChek® tool, the NRS, pain trends, and charting in one solution * simplify record-keeping and documentation to demonstrate compliance and support funding claims, with all historical pain assessment data in one place. PainChek continues its strong growth in the UK, with over 39,000 licensed beds across more than 1,000 care facilities—representing a 103% increase from last year. Some of PainChek’s recently implemented larger UK clients include: - Oakland Care – 1,000 beds across 10 homes following a successful pilot in one of its services, where over 20,000 pain assessments were conducted over 6 months. A significant reduction in pain was identified during this time period, and several case studies captured showed how PainChek® data influenced care and treatment plans. - Berkley Care Group – 800 beds over 12 care homes. PainChek® was recently highlighted as a “significant step forward in addressing an unmet need in healthcare” in a publication titled ‘Ethics of Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Primary Care and Family Medicine Residency Programs’ in IntechOpen, the world’s leading publisher of Open Access books by scientists. The authors wrote: “PainChek® emerged as a pioneering tool designed with a clear objective: to revolutionise pain assessment for individuals unable to communicate verbally, particularly those suffering from severe dementia. It aspired to fill a critical void in pain assessment for non-verbal patients, potentially enhancing the quality of life for those suffering from severe dementia.” Read the full volume here: https://lnkd.in/gAyYQXyH #PainChek #InTechOpen #AIinhealthcare #artificialintelligence #AI #ethicsofAI #openaccess

Did you know that pain can be under-reported and inadequately managed in up to 80% of older adults with cognitive impairment? In Canada, around 87% of residents in #longtermcare live with cognitive impairment, and there are considerable challenges in assessing their pain levels. It was a pleasure to co-present with Danielle Cruise (PhD Candidate at Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa), at the AGE-WELL NCE Inc. Annual Conference, the results of an ongoing study at Perley Health on the implementation and evaluation of an AI-enabled technology (PainChek) for pain assessment through facial scan and screening questions. #AgeTech #Innovation #AGEWELL #research #longtermcare
