  • What business are you in? Many of you will not be in HR / People and Culture, so personally I wouldn't expect you to know this level of detail in Modern Awards. My clients know this because they get the heads up well in advance. 😊 And now you know this! Make sure you're communicating compliantly as well as in the tone and ways suitable for your organisation.

    This article (link below) describes what is truly reprehensible behaviour. And yet the termination is considered harsh. Why? Because the person had not received training on the policies about not bullying and harassing people. Make sure you have completed training, and you know who attended. We've developed a training workshop, reach out of you need support. It is designed to be interactive and conversational as well as informative and helping you meet your legal obligations.   • As deeply disturbing as 65 sleeps was when I read that this week, it's an important message. Make sure you are advertising and paying people correctly!

    Hiring Christmas casuals? Most casual pay rates have changed since last year’s holiday period, so it’s important to check the relevant minimum rate before advertising a role. TIP: Although not required, it’s a good idea for a job ad to say if a position is for a fixed period (e.g. over the holiday season only) or if working on public holidays is required, so potential applicants have a clear picture of the role. Remember, it’s against the law to advertise a job with a pay rate less than the legal minimum.   • It's important to be very clear about this, at the beginning. If we meet with the manager and coachee together this is raised in that discussion. Overtly. We do understand that managers / employers want to ensure that the coaching is effective, and the goals are achieved. And that's not a coach's story to tell. Instead, we encourage the person we're coaching to have a sheet of paper where they can note down anything that they'd like to share with their manager. In our final meeting, if they invite their manager, they can choose what if anything they share. What insights they've had, what they've tried or applied at work. Triangulation has rarely, in our experience, been helpful in a workplace.
