#PortAuthority proudly led last Wednesday’s annual emergency exercise in Newcastle named ‘SPILLEX 24’, that simulated both a fire onboard a vessel within the port precinct and a marine pollution incident. The training exercise put more than 30 front-line first responders and port operators in a complex real-life incident scenario allowing them to test their capabilities and emergency response protocols. Participants included representatives from Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police Force, NSW Ambulance, NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), @Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), and Svitzer Australia #portofnewcastle A big thank you to everyone involved as preparedness exercises and being ready for anything is critical to our work on the water. 🌏💪 #emergencypreparedness #marineoperations #portoperations #training

🌞 Powering the Future: Solar Panels Installed at Newcastle Port Centre 🌞 As part of our journey to net-zero by 2024, #PortAuthority recently installed its first major rooftop solar panel system at our Newcastle Port Centre. 81 solar panels were recently installed to help reduce the reliance on grid electricity and efficiently use rooftop space to generate power for onsite maritime operations. This 35.6 kW solar system provides, on average, 150 kWh/day of electricity, which will be used to offset electricity use within the Newcastle Port Centre. The added benefits will see an estimated $170,000 in electricity savings over the life of the system which equates to around $9,000 per year. Watch this space... as we continue to deliver more green initiatives, driving positive change for our maritime community and the planet.🌍 #PortAuthorityofNSW #Newcastle #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #GreenInitiative #Innovation

🚤 Exciting Progress Alert! 🚤 We are over the halfway mark for the Moore’s Wharf pontoon upgrade! Running over two stages, our project and operations teams have collaborated to redesign a new and improved floating pontoon with extra berths to facilitate our response vessels. As the home of Port Authority’s operations supporting Sydney’s Working Harbour 365 24/7, the upgraded pontoon will make it easier for our marine response teams to quickly access vessels and allow for more versatility.

🌊 Meet our Survey team 🌊 Behind the navigational safety of each of our six ports is a small but mighty team of 12 surveying, mapping and met-ocean specialists who know our ports inside and out, with a combined 139 years’ experience at Port Authority! Since the inception of Port Authority 2014, the team has transformed the way data is shared and displayed from all ports and across divisions by implementing Geographic Information System (GIS) tools. They’ve not only expanded their services within Port Authority through additional hydrographic surveys and met-ocean but secured their position as leaders in their field by sharing their expertise with the broader maritime industry through contract projects. Shout out to this behind-the-scenes team who are invaluable to the navigational safety of our ports! #marinesurvey #marineoperations #maritime #maritimeindustry Image taken by Hydrographic Surveyor Tim Connor showing the survey team taking on the Macleay River Bar in the Port Explorer during a hydrographic survey of Trial Bay in 2022.

After a 12-month major restoration, Port Authority’s iconic working Hornby Lighthouse has been unveiled and is shining brighter than ever! 🌟 Our Projects team worked closely with heritage specialists to ensure Australia’s third oldest lighthouse was meticulously restored, with works including stripping away 10 layers of paint, formulating a modern paint sample to recreate the iconic red and white stripes, desalinating the original sandstone blocks and giving the structure some TLC. Built after two tragic shipwrecks 166 years ago, the State Heritage listed lighthouse remains an important navigational aid to mariners entering the Harbour. With six spectacular working ports across NSW, there’s never a dull day for our people. Members of our Sydney-based Cruise team recently made a team excursion to Port Kembla where they got to meet the team and see firsthand the State-wide significance of this port. The Cruise team enjoyed learning more about the many roles and functions of Port Authority, and the pilot boat crew even took them out on the water to see our pilots join the inbound and outbound vessels! #OnePortAuthority #PortKembla #MaritimeIndustry
