In the spirit of Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colour, PLP Australia staff members came together last Friday to participate in an afternoon of laughter and fun, applying vibrant colourful powder on their teammates to the background beat of Hindu music. Afterwards the staff enjoyed a selection of traditional sweets and drinks. Habiba Akbari is Process Control Manager at the PLP Australia manufacturing facility where she has worked for 19 years. Habiba’s courage, strength, integrity, and determination to face life’s challenges with compassion and integrity is an inspirational story encompassing the essence of International Women’s Day 2025. Due to the war in Afghanistan, in 1980 Habiba fled to neighbouring Pakistan with her 4-month-old baby and husband with only the clothes on her back. Habiba successfully completed a Pharmaceutical Degree from Kabul University. While living in Pakistan, Habiba applied for a pharmacist position with the United Nations where she worked in the only medical team that provided vital medical treatment for thousands of people in the refugee camp. Habiba worked with the United Nations for 7 years. In 1988 Habiba’s family immigrated to Australia to give both her sons a better life. While a new immigrant in Australia, in 1988 Habiba applied for a process worker position at Exicom, an electronic manufacturing company. Within three months, she was offered full-time employment and after six months was promoted to a supervisors position. After 9 years working at Exicom, Habiba applied for a position at GPC Electronics where she worked for another 9 years. In 2006 Habiba applied for a superintendent position at PLP Australia and after three months was promoted to manufacturing manager for the day and night shift. Habiba managed the forging, casting, and welding production areas, the helical line hardware production, the plastic moulding workshop as well as the assembly area.   During her management positions, Habiba has offered moral support to her co-workers personally and professionally and provided encouragement for their career advancement. Habiba believes in supporting the business and when asked if she encountered difficulties working in a male dominated industry, she said that she does not see a difference between male or female workers and treats everyone equally with respect. She says, ‘if you do the right thing with honesty, integrity and loyalty your fellow workers will join you and you will be supported.’ Habiba said ‘I feel at home at PLP, it is like a family where I am culturally supported and there is respect for peoples belief’s and appearance.’ Kevin Bradley has worked at PLP for 19 years and in his various roles including NSW Sales Manager, Product Manager, Customer Service Manager and National Market Manager has had numerous dealings with Habiba and said that she is very knowledgeable on manufacturing processes, reliable, supportive, and respectful to all her peers. A group of Rooty Hill High School year 10 students accompanied by two career advisors recently visited PLP Australia’s head office and manufacturing facility at Glendenning, NSW.   The students watched a presentation about the various industries PLP supports and the large range of products produced in the factory. A tour of the site demonstrated the range of skills and variety of job opportunities available in the manufacturing industry.   The students were engaged and interested in the factory tour and are considering apprenticeship options to pursue a career path in manufacturing.   PLP Australia designs, manufactures, and supplies products and services that support critical infrastructure networks for the electrical power and communication industries.   #PLPAustralia #Australianmanufacturing

PLP Australia celebrated the Diwali Festival of Light by dressing in traditional Indian clothing and enjoying a selection of savoury and sweet Indian cuisine. The Rangoli patterns on the floor represent happiness, positivity and is intended to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good luck.    The event was a great opportunity to bring everyone together and celebrate the diversity and customs of the PLP team members.   #diwali #plp
