A group of Rooty Hill High School year 10 students accompanied by two career advisors recently visited PLP Australia’s head office and manufacturing facility at Glendenning, NSW. The students watched a presentation about the various industries PLP supports and the large range of products produced in the factory. A tour of the site demonstrated the range of skills and variety of job opportunities available in the manufacturing industry. The students were engaged and interested in the factory tour and are considering apprenticeship options to pursue a career path in manufacturing. PLP Australia designs, manufactures, and supplies products and services that support critical infrastructure networks for the electrical power and communication industries. #PLPAustralia #Australianmanufacturing

Apprentices are hard at work! As part of our dedication to developing future leaders, we collaborate closely with fellow NRW Holdings subsidiary AES Equipment Solutions. Both teams provide training and broad work experience to our apprentices, both in the workshop and on-site. When the apprentices are first signed on, they work with our Training team to ensure they are aware of all processes and safety requirements. After this, they start working in the AES workshops. Rotating between departments in the workshop, they’ll gain thorough experience in each one. Further down the track, they can choose to work on an NRW site as part of the Maintenance team. Both NRW and AES support the apprentices each step of the way, ensuring they get the most out of this experience and leave it confident, competent and ready for the world. The question: How can we help prepare our current apprentices to become effective mentors and future leaders? ❓ The solution: Provide apprentices the opportunity to work with high school pre-apprentices; preparing our current and future apprentices simultaneously! 👍 And, when should we do this? National Apprenticeship Week of Course! Today, the 3rd-year Des Moines and Cedar Rapids Telecommunication Apprentices spent time with electrical pre-apprentices from Central Campus. The 3rd-year apprentices did an outstanding job teaching, training, and sharing experiences with the pre-apprentices. They took the time to demonstrate how to accomplish each task, provided guidance, answered questions, and showed great patience; allowing each pre-apprentice the time they needed to complete the task. After the lab was completed, the pre-apprentices evaluated their mentor. They received nothing but positive feedback from the students! 5/5 Would Recommend! 💯 And the pre-apprentices? They were engaged and excited about the opportunity to learn something new, but even more excited to hear about the electrical industry from the apprentices they were working alongside. Thank you to our current apprentices and the Central Campus pre-apprentices who participated! It was a great success and something we look forward to continuing in the future! #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #nationalapprenticeweek #apprenticeship #futureelectrician #ibew347 #necaofiowa #etATraining

Earlier today I had the opportunity to attend the Construction Industry Perceptions Research Forum at University of South Australia. This informative session, delivered in partnership between CITB South Australia and University of South Australia provided great insights into perceptions of the construction industry from key stakeholder groups both within and outside the sector, in addition to key findings and recommendations. There were many great takeaways from the session, but one which resonated the most was that only 17% of respondents aged 18-25 years indicated a strong interest in undertaking a trade in the construction industry sector. This result is alarming considering the Albanese government’s commitment to build 1.2 million residential houses in the next 5 years. Apprentice Employment Network SA and our members are committed to collaborating with the CITB South Australia and other key stakeholders to remove barriers and change any negative perceptions regarding an apprenticeship as a career pathway. Thank you to Holly Willcox, Toni Hartley, Amanda Grocock and the rest of the CITB South Australia team for the invitation to attend and Professors Nancy Arthur and Akshay Vij for their presentations. #aensa #citb #construction #gtos #apprenticeships #traineeships
