In this article on PASA, Special Advisor Su-Ann Tan Burke discusses the role procurement plays when it comes to ensuring supply chain cyber security.   She breaks down four key steps that procurement advisors, contract lawyers and contract/business managers should be aware of in implementing supply chain cyber security, liaising with technical security advisors if needed.   1. Security by design - Procurement planning, market research and approach to market (ATM) preparation should incorporate clear security requirements.  2. Embedding security when releasing requirements to market - Evaluating the sensitivity of information to be released to tenderers and considering access controls. 3. Identifying the preferred supplier with risks in mind - Considering the overall benefits offered by a supplier against the risks that the supplier poses to an entity. Evaluation of tenders should include predefined security criteria.  4. Contract management and closure - Actively monitor supplier performance and security compliance and foster cooperative discussions around threats and responsive disclosures of breaches. As the contract nears its expiry, complete closure and offboarding activities such as return of physical access passes, cancelling systems access and deletion or destruction of information held by the supplier   Read her full article below.
