'Feedback is the Breakfast of Champions'... Now that Phoebe is off and running, she has received her first official bowl of feedback from a very grateful Candidate. We think it would have tasted pretty good too, and we look forward to sharing in the excitement as we watch Phoebe's recruitment journey progress from its sound foundation. A hat tip to Recruiter Insider as well for providing an outstanding set of tools for generating the feedback buffet that enables us to find ways to improve the service we provide for our Candidates like Lucy. #brisbanerecruiter #brisbanebusiness #workinbrisbane #candidatecare #breakfastofchampions

Are you confident about being paid fairly for the work that you do? This recent article from the Australian HR Institute (AHRI) News Site sheds light on how accidental underpayments by Employer Organisations can occur. The underpayment of wages, whether intentional or not, has become a significant issue in Australia. The Fair Work Ombudsman reports that over $1.041 billion* was recovered for workers in just the past two financial years (*Source: Office of the Fair Work Ombudsman Annual Report 2022-23) With the rising cost of living, it’s essential to know what you’re entitled to. For instance, Australia's minimum wage increased by 3.75% in July. If you're eligible, take the time to make sure you've received your wage increase. If you believe you’ve been underpaid, or not fairly compensated, the Fair Work Ombudsman offers valuable resources and specific advice on their website. To contact the FWO, visit their website at https://lnkd.in/e5Mwh6s or call 13 13 94.
Accidental underpayments can slip through the cracks in a number of ways, from misclassification of employment to mishandling overtime. Michael Byrnes, Partner at law firm Swaab, provides insight on five common ways employers unknowingly underpay their staff and the proactive steps employers can take to prevent underpayments.

Unless you ‘ve been living under a rock (to be fair, these days that’s not such a bad option), you’re probably familiar with the story of Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachael Gunn, also known as “Raygun”. To preface, I know nothing about breakdancing, so I’m in no position to comment on whether she should have been competing or not but that’s not what this is about. She didn’t score a point in any of her three bouts, which is clearly not ideal, and from what I understand there was never any expectation that she would be competitive. We know that she earned her spot by winning the 2023 Oceania Breakdancing Championships. A lot will be said about the technicalities of breakdancing and what constitutes a ‘good’ performance, but that’s not the focus here. She is now a global sensation, though not necessarily for the right reason. She is also known as Dr Gunn, as she works as a lecturer on gender politics. So, she’s clever. Let’s just hope she’s resilient. Reports indicate that her mental health is being monitored due to the online backlash. We are great at supporting and celebrating our winners aren’t we? Unfortunately, we also seem to love a good pile on. Despite her participation being her choice, I can’t help but wonder if this is a classic case of someone being set up to fail. I recently wrote about a close friend who got a job through a recommendation from someone she knew but who knew nothing about her skills and capabilities. The job turned to be an absolute disaster for her and the impact on her wellbeing was devastating. I realise there could be a lot more to this story that we don’t know or understand but also somebody gave Raygun the green light to compete and if Raygun is being thrown under the bus then who is driving? As Roosevelt once said "it is not the critic who counts....the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena." #raygun #setuptofail #leadership #rachaelgunn
