If you're submitting a blood sample for a coagulation screen, you need to submit a full citrate tube plus a 2ml EDTA tube. Our test results include CBC, PT, PTT, fibrinogen, platelets and a smear evaluation. If your patient is a candidate for a blood transfusion, there's also this fantastic resource available from Animal Emergency Australia, with their comprehensive guide to transfusion medicine in dogs and cats: https://lnkd.in/g2iCrfry

Whilst our veterinary internal medicine consultant Dr Katherine Briscoe is away on leave, we’re excited to welcome Dr Lucia Yu, who will be available to provide support to our veterinary clients for case input and advice. Lucia is a board-certified specialist in small animal internal medicine. She graduated as a veterinarian from The University of Queensland in 2012 and worked as a general practitioner for some years before pursuing her passion in small animal internal medicine. This career journey has included a rotating internship at the University of Sydney, followed by a small animal internal medicine residency at the U-Vet Werribee Animal Hospital through the University of Melbourne. During this time, she also completed post-graduate degrees including a Master of Veterinary Studies, and a Master of Veterinary Science investigating outcomes of oral radioiodine treatment in feline hyperthyroidism. Lucia became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in 2021 and continues to have a special interest in all aspects of small animal endocrine disorders. Currently, Lucia works in private clinical practice, where she enjoys collaborating in a multi-disciplinary team to achieve the best possible outcome for her patient and their owners There is no additional charge to access our veterinary medicine consultant service – it’s all part of our mission to help you provide the highest quality care for your patients. Our veterinary pathologists may recommend you speak to our Veterinary Medicine Consultants or you can also request assistance from them as required. Frogs are highly sensitive to environmental changes, especially in their aquatic and terrestrial habitats - and are important keystone species which means they can provide valuable insights into the overall health of ecosystems and the biodiversity they support. We're proud to be supporting the work of Frog Safe Inc in far north Queensland through a local veterinary clinic which is helping with research into the incidence of neoplasia in some frogs. You can learn more about the important work of Frog Safe Inc and also how we can all help frogs, via their website: https://lnkd.in/g73si6d6
