As part of our Mental Health Month activities in October, some of our team participated in the One Foot Forward Walk for Mental Health for the second year in a row. The challenge, run by Black Dog Institute, promotes positive wellbeing behaviours through movement, while raising funds to go towards ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education, and digital services. Throughout the month, the team led by REA Architect Anton Wintergerst moved 5,232km - the distance you’d travel if you were to visit all of REA’s Australian offices - and raised almost $12,000! From half marathons to personal bests, the team showed great passion and commitment by incorporating more movement into their everyday lives, celebrating their great results along the way. Well done to everyone involved. Check out some of the team snaps below! 📸 #experienceREA

What an amazing week we had coming together for Hackdays 2024! Hackdays is a series of events and activities focused on bringing creativity, collaboration, and connection across REA. They're part of our cultural fabric, and with 43 hack events having taken place over the last 10 years, it’s no surprise that some of our most valuable features started from Hackdays! This year, we changed things up and introduced a new format, including: 🔶 Incubator – a process for our most creative, ambitious and valuable ideas to come to life. 🔶 Hacking – a time for our people to collaborate on incubator ideas, and other big and small ideas from across the group. 🔶 Marketplace– we gather to share our ideas and celebrate. So many incredibly talented teams showcased what they had created and we celebrated their achievements, followed by an inaugural award ceremony at the Marketplace. And of course, in true REA style, we wrapped up the event by sharing lots of delicious food. A massive thank you to everyone who participated, shared ideas, and helped make this event a success. #experienceREA

Each October, REA recognises Mental Health Month with a focus on learning, building capability, connecting and fundraising. This year we explored a different mental health topic each week, putting a spotlight on menopause and women’s health, LGBTQIA+ people, neurodivergence, homelessness, and men’s mental health. Some of our team chose to participate in Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge, raising more than $4000 on top of the $122,000 REA pledged to the challenge earlier this month. As part of the challenge, team members chose something uncomfortable to do for 10 days straight, from long runs to early rises. We created a virtual gratitude wall containing daily gratitude tasks for the team to undertake, and as a way of fostering social wellbeing, we also enjoyed popcorn and choc tops during viewings of Inside Out and Inside Out 2 in our Sydney and Melbourne offices and at home. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Mental Health Month meaningful and impactful. #experienceREA

Each year, we survey thousands of Australians in our annual Property Seeker Survey. First conducted in 2011, the Property Seeker Survey provides key insights into the attitudes of Australians towards the property market, and helps to understand what Australians are doing, thinking and feeling in relation to property. The independent research is the largest and most in-depth study of property consumers in Australia. This year's survey revealed buyers are increasingly demanding greater transparency and more comprehensive information on a listing when searching for a property, with 55% of respondents placing pricing information as the most important. You can read more insights from this year's survey in REB (Real Estate Business). https://lnkd.in/gdEEqnrr

REA Group CEO Financial Services, Anthony Waldron, and Director of Economic Research, Cameron Kusher, were recently invited to appear at a public hearing for the Senate Economics References Committee’s inquiry into Financial regulatory framework and home ownership. With a comprehensive view of Australia’s property market and insights into Australia’s lending market, REA is uniquely positioned to comment on market conditions and economic policy. Home ownership is a goal for many Australians, but as the cost of housing has grown, the share of Australians renting has increased, and the share of Australians that have paid off their mortgage has fallen. Australian households are taking on greater amounts of debt to purchase more expensive homes, and this is impacting the ownership prospects of many, especially first-time buyers. We believe there is an opportunity to reform our financial regulatory framework to increase competition, encourage greater innovation, improve the delivery of housing, reduce overall mortgage costs for consumers and help more Australians into home ownership sooner. Our submission details six recommendations focused on making housing more affordable and finance more accessible. You can download it here along with all submissions to the Inquiry: https://lnkd.in/g7FDrPC9

Our offices came to life last week, with lights, colour, music and dancing to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights. Also known as Deepavali, the festival symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, as well as joy, peace and prosperity. Led by Senior Delivery Lead, Tungisha Gupta and passionate volunteers from around the business, and hosted by Delivery Manager, Sayanti Sarkar and Senior Data Management Analyst, Manish Lalwani, the event united people from all our locations, including our newest office in Cyber City, India. With a classical dance in the ancient dance form, Odissi by Roshni Vellore and Priya Chakraborty, Bollywood dancing by a group from REA, a video showcasing different ways REA people celebrate Diwali, henna art and more, the event was a wonderful celebration of culture and community. Happy Diwali! #experienceREA
