Our exercise physiologist Emmalee recently presented to veterans at Wangi RSL about the importance of exercise for managing mental health conditions. Emmalee shared : 🍏 A landmark study led by the Black Dog Institute revealed that just one hour of exercise a week could prevent 12% of cases of depression 🍏 A general recommendation for managing anxiety symptoms is to take a hike, stand up from your desk every 30 minutes, do breathwork, and stretch 🍏 Exercise has similar effects to antidepressant medication and none of the side effects! It can even counteract the side effects of some medications, such as reducing the risk of falling by strengthening muscles while helping to control body weight and blood pressure. 🍏 Although not a cure, Emmalee shared that exercise should be seen as a ‘tool in the tool belt’ for people living with mental illness and as a strategy for helping to manage symptoms. Recovery Station has been working with the Veterans Affairs community for nearly 20 years and accepts DVA referrals. Please call 1300 588 851 to speak to our helpful team. *Everyone is different and should speak to their GP or EP before commencing any new exercise regime. #veteranhealth #veterans #veteran #mentalhealth #exercise #alliedhealth

Caring for a loved one is a demanding role that often goes unnoticed. ❤️🩹 With 2.65 million carers across Australia supporting family members and friends, it’s no wonder National Carers Week falls within Mental Health Month. The truth is, while carers are pivotal to the well-being of those they support, they often experience immense physical, financial, and emotional strain. Here’s a real-life example* of how targeted support made a huge difference for one carer experiencing severe carer strain. With the right strategies and resources, we were able to reduce her stress and help her re-establish a healthier dynamic with her loved one. ----> Read about Sharon’s story and how recognising carer strain can transform lives: https://bit.ly/4eP6gUY Remember that your well-being is just as important if you're a carer. Please reach out for support when you need it. 💙💚 #NationalCarersWeek #MentalHealthMonth #CarerSupport #BurnoutPrevention #Wellbeing #NDIS #RecoveryStation #CarerAwareness *Names have been changed for privacy.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting an incredible virtual event with the amazing Emma Gee, an Occupational Therapist and Stroke Survivor. Emma’s heartfelt presentation on building stronger therapeutic alliances moved and inspired us all. 💚💙 Her insights, blending clinical knowledge with lived experience, reminded us of the power of genuinely listening, adapting to evolving goals, and making every conversation meaningful. 👉 Top Tips We’re Taking Onboard: 1. Body language speaks volumes — it’s all about those subtle, non-verbal cues. 2. Client goals can shift over time. Check-in, check-in, and check-in. 3. Keep it conversational — relaxed chats can make goal-setting more approachable. A massive thank you to Emma Gee for sharing her story and wisdom! 🙏 Read more about her presentation here -----> https://bit.ly/3Np7ZEN #RecoveryStation #TherapeuticAlliances #HealthcareProfessionals #AlliedHealth #OccupationalTherapist #StrokeSurvivor https://bit.ly/4eVK0J9

There’s something truly special about blending teamwork, a clear goal, plenty of laughter, and a meaningful outcome. 💙💚 We hit that sweet spot at our Annual Training Conference, where our admin staff came together for a team-building exercise to safely build bikes while unknowingly creating surprise gifts for three deserving clients - Darren, Shaylea, and Cody. They were over the moon and had no idea they’d be going home with brand-new bikes! 💪 The result? Absolutely priceless. Just look at the huge smiles on everyone’s faces. (P.S. For quality assurance, we were grateful to have Noah from Tune Cycles give the bikes his two thumbs up before our clients rode them home. 👍👍) #TeamGoals #Legends #HappyClients #RecoveryStation #GoalGetters @allambic
