"In an age where environmental challenges often feel overwhelming and all-consuming, we must create diverse avenues for people to engage with issues of environmental degradation and sustainability. My time at Regen Melbourne has allowed me to focus my energy on the differing ways in which environmental and social issues can be discussed, communicated, and therefore dealt with." We were lucky to have Gypsy Wright, a Bachelor of Environment and Society student at RMIT University, join us for a student placement recently. Here, Gypsy reflects on the time she spent with us, which included writing stories for our City Portrait Stories platform (links in comments!) Are you a researcher working in urban resilience? 🏢 🧑🔬 Our friends at University of Melbourne are kicking off a 'Bottom-up Resilience' project to explore how community networks influence infrastructure governance, and Regen Melbourne (along with Real Deal Geelong) will be one of their case studies. To help facilitate the project, they are hiring a post-doc, recruiting through 28 March. The successful candidate will have experience in urban resilience policy, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration, and will work closely with the Chief Investigators to drive the project forward. What does ziplining have to do with climate change adaptation? 🤔 More than you might think! Here’s how an adventure in Laos made our Adaptive Futures Lead, Yasmina Dkhissi, ponder the nature of resilient systems. Read now on the Regen Gazette ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ghaFiMx4

✨Can you imagine a Melbourne in which most of our food comes from nearby farms, where the money we spend on everyday goods recirculates in the local economy, where multinational businesses (and banks!) adhere to the rules of society, and where local businesses are thriving and multiplying? ✨ YES!? Then do we have an event for you ⬇️ We're very excited about this one: Regen Melbourne is pleased to host a workshop with world-renowned local economies expert, and founder and director of Local Futures, Helena Norberg-Hodge. 🔮🌱🌐 Local Futures is an international non-profit dedicated to renewing ecological and social well-being by strengthening communities and local economies, and we're so lucky to have them join us in Melbourne this April. As we continue to imagine our collective vision for a regenerated Greater Melbourne, we invite community organisers from across our city to come together and learn from Helena (and one another) in what promises to be a dynamic and inspiring session. Grab your tickets below – these won't last long ⬇️ 📆 Tuesday April 1 ⏰ 11am-1pm 📍Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne 🎟 Tickets via Humanitix ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ewJCUEpU

Do you know a young Melbournian keen to transform their climate passion into action? 🌀🤔 The City of Melbourne and Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Grants are a brilliant opportunity to flip bold ideas into reality – and applications are now open. Last year, Regen Melbourne had the privilege of hosting one of the grant recipients to run a “Green Spaces in Unusual Paces” program that nestled perfectly alongside our Regen Streets work. The project was aimed to promote green space and act as a community engagement tool to promote climate conversations. Find out more here ➡️ https://bit.ly/4iiN83q

Out of office ➡️ into nature 🌱 Last week, the Regen Melbourne team was lucky enough to step into nature on beautiful Bunurong Country to reconnect, reflect and plan for the year ahead. Highlights from our time together included: 🏊 Swimming! Lots of swimming. There's nothing like diving through breaking waves to clarify the mind 🌊 👯♂️ Welcoming two new team members to Regen Melbourne: Josh Devine as our new Collaboration & Investment Lead, and Joel Backwell as our new Policy & Urban Governance Lead. 🌱 Big conversations about the privilege to be able to do this work at this time, and the very real responsibility that comes with this privilege. 🤓 Sharing stories of how our Living Strategy has come to life over the last 12 months and fine-tuning our approach for the year ahead. 🍩 Spending time with Kate Raworth on Zoom, exploring how we discerningly engage with our current state system as it fractures around us, while keeping our eyes on the transformational vision we hold. We also reflected on the imperfect ways ideas, models and frameworks land in the complexity of place-based work. 🧸 Hilarious improv games bringing to life some of the postures found in the Practices (Ps) element of our Living Strategy. 🚀 Putting the finishing touches on defined missions for our Food Systems and Regen Streets Earthshots. Coming soon to a Melbourne near you. 🏊♂️ In the midst of our spacious time together, the Herald Sun published a #swimmablebirrarung front page! Was incredible to watch Charity Mosienyane, Emma Webber (from afar!) Oliver Pelling and Sarah Smith burst into action, working with our community of partners to share radio and TV opportunities. With great thanks to our incredible team: Charity Mosienyane, Nicole Barling-Luke, Nina Sharpe, Dheepa Jeyapalan, Yasmina Dkhissi, Josh Devine, Joel Backwell, Alison Whitten, Oliver Pelling, Jeremy Waanders, Sarah Smith, Emma Webber.

“For me to come in and say, ‘I'm nature, and my voice rules,’ wouldn’t be ‘nature’ at all. Nature would start with listening, trying little things and seeing what works. Coming up with a strategy isn’t nature. Nature is responsive to the reality of something starting small.” Last month, we welcomed Dr Dominique Hes to the Regen Melbourne board. Dominique is joining the board with a very special role: to represent nature, and to give nature a voice in our decision-making process. 🌱 On the Regen Gazette this week, Dominique reflects on the opportunities and responsibilities ahead – including what nature can teach us about purposeful governance within our organisations. We’re excited to welcome not one, not three, but TWO new members to the Regen Melbourne team this week: Josh Devine and Joel Backwell 💥🌱✌️ ➡️ Josh is our new Collaboration & Investment Lead, extending our work in new urban governance and maturing collaborative and participatory approaches to urban transformation through our Earthshots. Josh will also be leading our work in systemic investment, developing new ways to harness capital in service of regeneration. Josh is a proud Wonnarua man and has been working most recently at First Australians Capital (FAC) focused on connecting ecosystems, supporting First Nations businesses to access capital and providing advisory services. ➡️ And Joel is our new Policy & Urban Governance Lead, driving the systemic integration of our work with public policy making across the city. Joel will also be further developing our work around new urban governance, exploring new forms of structured governance and how it can enhance agency and participation in Greater Melbourne. Joel is a Senior Executive with extensive Private and Public sector experience across Asia and Australia, including leadership roles as a Public Servant, Lawyer, Director and Diplomat in areas including education, trade, investment, economic development, transport, infrastructure, planning and local government. Welcome to the team, team! We’re thrilled to have you with us. 🚀
