Turns out the Region Media Group team is almost as good at cooking delicious food as it is at eating it! We spent the evening at Ronald McDonald House Charities ACT & South East NSW cooking dinner for the families staying there. Ronald McDonald House supports 239 families a year, providing a home away from home while their children undergo treatment for serious illnesses. Their highly anticipated Gala Ball is coming up on 29 March, have you got your tickets?

What a lovely way to end the year! Thanks RSPCA ACT for dropping by with two adorable little puppies. Clearly, we couldn't be happier.

As part of Region Media Group's commitment to our community, team members rolled up their sleeves to help the St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn Roadhouse. Offering access to a hot evening meal, material aid, support and referrals, Vinnies Roadhouse is just one of the many programs Vinnies runs to support those who experience, or are at risk of, homelessness and people experiencing social isolation. The Roadhouse sees up to 80 people come through each day to access support. It was rewarding to be a very small part of what they do. Thanks, Brittany and Tim at Vinnies, for your support!

After five days and 142 km, the Menslink 'Great Walk' is over for another year. But the impacts will last much longer - and it's raised the most amount of money in the event's four-year history.

The Menslink Great Walk has officially kicked off! This week, 31 local Canberra heroes band together to conquer 142 kms of walking track, a further distance than to the Everest Base Camp. 🏔️ They are raising important funds to support Menslink programs, supporting young men and their families in the Canberra community. You can donate here at: https://lnkd.in/ggRQJqgr

Region Media Group reporter Oliver Jacques has been selected as a finalist for the 2024 The Walkley Foundation for Journalism Awards: Australia’s most prestigious prize for excellence in journalism. Oliver is one of three finalists in the Coverage of Community and Regional Affairs category for his investigation into the demise of Riverina wine company Sans Pareil Estate. Oliver’s exclusive reporting uncovered allegations of tax fraud totalling $32 million and shone a light on the lavish lifestyle and spending of the winery’s young owner. “I dug into court records and liquidator documents and the story became more and more intriguing – I couldn’t believe nobody else was covering it,” Oliver said. “Allegations of corporate crime are very underreported and there’s certainly a lot of alleged victims here, including a long list of creditors that are still owed money, a lot of them from small towns in the Riverina and surrounding areas.” Oliver joined the newly established Region Riverina team in 2022 and said he was very much at home in the steadily growing Region Media Group. “I was reluctant to get back into journalism because I thought it was a brutal job, but Region is by far the best media organisation I’ve ever worked for,” he said. The 2024 Walkley Award winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the ICC in Sydney on Tuesday, 19 November.
