    Human Resources 🧠 | Local Award Finalist 2024 🏆 | Operational Leader 👟

I was told by a recruiter a few weeks back that organisations prefer not to hire self-employed people as they don’t like to be bossed around 😂 Newsflash - I get bossed around by a 5, 6, and 8 year old everyday. I know how to handle the bosses 😜 Jokes aside, if you think employment is about bossing someone around - that’s a 🚩 to me. As for self-employment, I would recommend you take the time to understand the perseverance, determination and skills it takes to be self-employed for nearly nine years. I have not only continued my HR profession but developed sound business acumen 😉 I’ll continue to be bossed around by these three until the right opportunity comes 💝 #humanresources #rejection #selfemployment #parttimeopportunities #hrleader

This does not mean you’re not amazing, intelligent or worthy. It means, at this time, they believe you are not suited for their organisation. It may mean, that the resume didn’t clearly articulate your experience that aligns with their prerequisites. It may mean, that you don’t have the number of years of experience in the same role and they don’t have the ‘time’ to evaluate your transferable skills. It may mean, that you are too experienced and they want someone green even though you probably don’t want a senior role no longer. It may mean, that they are posting fake jobs to test out the market. It may mean, they have someone internal in mind but due to ‘red-tape’ they had to post externally. It may mean, they had a large number of applicants and chose someone who ticked every box. It may mean, you don’t have industry experience and they had someone apply within the industry. It may mean a million things, but it does not mean you are not fabulous in your own way. Keep applying, following up, networking and pushing through and you’ll find that next amazing team! 🌟 #resumehelper #resumewriting #facts #application #hr #recruitment

Client: I want my documents to be different from standard practice as I want to stand out. Do not use any of the typical words in resumes these days, such as implemented, successfully, led, delivered, collaborative etc Resume Helper: Provides a story-telling resume with a different approach to demonstrating their value proposition Client: I have read online that achievements need to be action words such as implemented, led, and delivered. Can we please use these kind of words? Resume Helper: 🤔😤 🤓 Sometimes, we have to choose what battles to fight for our mental health! #resumewriting #clientinteractions #clientwaslovelythough #rememberwhatyouaskedfor

Strategy Consultation - Be Prepared! During our strategy consultation, I will explore your experience, achievements, projects, career aspirations, qualifications, and value proposition. The consultation is often likened to an interview, which is beneficial as it allows you to better prepare for challenging or unconventional questions. The initial consultation duration can vary between 30 to 60 minutes. Factors such as the complexity of the information required may lead to some consultations lasting longer. That said, here are some examples of questions I ask, but please note that every client is unique and may require different approaches. 1. What positions will you be applying for? 2. Are you targeting one industry or open to any? 3. What is the purpose of your current role? 4. What projects have you led recently? 5. What was the budget, timeline and outcome of those projects? 6. What are some measurable achievements we can highlight? 7. What is your leadership style? 8. How big was your direct and indirect team? 9. Have you completed any qualifications recently? If yes, what were they? 10. Have you been on any committees or boards? 11. What did you learn during that time? 12. Do you have data relating to employee engagement or retention rate? 13. Have you ever mentored anyone or enabled someone to be promoted? 14. Do you have exposure to managing change? In what capacity? #resumewriting #resumehelper #consultation #strategy #questions #interview

Why do I have to put my location on my resume? Employers want to know where you are located due to communication, taxation and accessiblility. For instance, if the opportunity was in Mona Vale but the candidate lived in Spring Farm, I would be hesitant as that is quite a hike to work everyday. It would not be feasible for the long haul. Yes, I know many people that do travel that far for work but normally it’s for management or rare positions. That said, I recommend you putting your location on your resume and here are some options; Location: Suburb, State Location: State, Country Location: Suburb | Willing to Relocate Location: Relocating to Australia Location: Moving to Australia | VISA As you can see, there’s various options as it all depends on YOUR situation. Resumes are never about cookie cutting or ‘you must do this’ as everyone’s situation is different. #resumehelper #resumewriting #location #recruitment

Do you feel stuck in your industry? Have you ever thought what it would be like to pivot into another industry, but afraid you won’t be able to? Well, newsflash - it’s possible! I work with many clients, family and friends who pivot between industries. Yes, some take a pay cut but not all. Some actually get better paying employment offers 🙂↕️ Here are some examples; - Warehouse Worker (FMCG) -> Crame Operator (Steel) - Legal Executive Assistant (Legal) -> Operations Leader (Accounting Agency) - Operations Manager (Education) -> HR Manager (Consultancy Firm) - Administrator (FMCG) -> Truck Driver (Mining) - Stay at Home Parent -> Machine Operator (Steel) - Call Centre Operator (Telecommunications) -> Marketing Coordinator (Marketing Agency) How is this possible? Well, it takes a bit of luck, perseverance, leveraging your network, and a resume that can articulate your transferable skills. If you want more information on the resume standpoint, please do not hesitate to reach out and I’ll be more happy to provide insights 😀 #resumehelper #resumewriting #industry #believeinyourself
