Working to enhance maritime safety, environmental sustainability and seafarer welfare
About us
At RightShip we provide expertise in global safety, sustainability and social responsibility best practice to the maritime industry. Our unrivalled combination of years of seafaring expertise, vast access to data, analytics and an intuitive digital platform means we offer pertinent, balanced insights to our customer across the maritime ecosystem, supporting them on a journey to zero harm. By this we mean zero harm to ships, to the cargo those ships carry, to the seafarers diligently carrying out their duties on board, and of course, zero harm to the environment the vessels are trading in. Actively incorporating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) metrics spanning marine emissions and pollution, crew welfare and ship safety into the solutions we offer, are all essential elements of a zero harm vision. We’re dedicated to supporting our customers to meet government and industry emission reduction targets, decarbonisation and air quality initiatives through our GHG rating, Carbon Accounting tool and Maritime Emissions Portal. Our Safety Score, vettings and inspections services highlight the importance of good safety practices on board and support the industry in striving for excellence. Finally, our Crew Welfare Self-Assessment demonstrates the ambition that weaves through everything we do - that each seafarer should return home safely from their voyage, thanks to well-managed working environments supporting the health and wellbeing of every crew member. At RightShip, we’ve seen an increasing demand for transparency and verifiable data. Our insights, and the truth they provide are collated and measured by our experts. Vitally, this means that those results can also be managed, allowing the maritime industry certainty that it’s making progress towards a safe, sustainable and socially conscious future.

We're excited to announce important updates regarding 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 (ESDs) as part of our ongoing commitment to advancing maritime decarbonisation. Optimising vessel performance is crucial for 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. By strategically adopting ESDs, ship owners can enhance environmental performance, reduce fuel consumption, and achieve significant cost savings—leading to improved 𝐆𝐇𝐆 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. To further incentivise the adoption of technologies like 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐩 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐬 (𝐏𝐁𝐂𝐅) and advance low friction coatings, RightShip has established a new crediting mechanism within our GHG Rating framework. This initiative aims not only to reward the efforts of ship owners and managers but also encourages broader implementation of these high-performance solutions across the industry. This progress has been made possible through collaboration with industry experts and partners. The insights provided by Hempel A/S and HYDRUS in proposing quantification frameworks and sharing experimental results have been instrumental in shaping our guidelines on low-friction coatings. We thank Hempel A/S, Jotun Performance Coatings, PPG, and others for their critical feedback on these guidelines that impact the evaluation of low-friction coatings on vessel speed. RightShip’s Response to INTERCARGO’s Statement on Inspections Age Trigger Decision RightShip has taken note of INTERCARGO's recent response regarding our announcement on the reduced age limit for Dry Bulk and General Cargo vessel inspections. We are encouraged by the understanding across the industry that inspections at a lower age of a vessel are necessary to enhance safety. From our discussions, we see that the industry is moving in the right direction and acknowledge that the primary concern centers around the timing of the implementation rather than the need for the change itself. As noted in our original press release, the decision is based on clear evidence of risks associated with ageing vessels and was informed by industry dialogue. RightShip would like to clarify that, contrary to INTERCARGO's suggestion, industry consultations were held globally before making the announcement, including with multiple INTERCARGO members and via workshops with more than 20 ship owners and managers. While it is not feasible to consult every company in the sector, a broad range of stakeholders, including Charterers, Owners, and Managers were engaged. It remains RightShip’s standard practice to provide six months' notice for significant changes from the date of announcement, allowing industry participants to budget, plan and execute timely with minimal disruption. We acknowledge the industry's need for time to adapt to evolving requirements, which guided our decision to implement a phased approach. The feedback we have received also reinforces the necessity for this change. RightShip strongly believes that vessels of all ages should be held to the same safety standards, and we encourage Owners and Managers to apply those standards across their entire fleet. Our RISQ tool, which has been available for three years, offers valuable guidance in this area. We are grateful that organisations like INTERCARGO share a common goal of enhancing safety standards across the industry. RightShip remains committed to ongoing engagement with the industry, and we will continue supporting Owners & Managers as they navigate this transition. In response to evolving market conditions and rising safety concerns in the Dry Bulk and General Cargo sectors, we're implementing a phased approach to vessel inspections starting March 31, 2025. Our age trigger for inspections will be reduced, ensuring that vessels undergo earlier checks to mitigate risks and promote safer maritime operations. 🔹 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟭 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱): 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 🔹 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟮 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲): 𝗙𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. As the global dry bulk fleet ages, our data-driven insights show the importance of early interventions. The phased change reflects industry feedback, supporting ship owners, managers, and charterers in making informed decisions and driving safety improvements. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gBCuRrS5
