We're pleased to announce the launch of Drive for Life, a great initiative where we at Roadcraft, along with the Salvation Army, local Police and Transport and Main Roads are joining forces to make a real difference in our community. Drive for Life is a critical initiative by the Salvation Army, one that supports young drivers between 18-25 with little to no access to an adult to accompany them during their driving practices. This program offers disadvantaged learner drivers a Roadcraft trained mentor to support them in completing 100 supervised log book hours, which is part of the process to obtaining a provisional driver’s licence - a significant step in achieving a new level of independence as a young adult. Become a Driving Mentor! We need dedicated mentors to guide these young drivers on their journey. By volunteering your time and expertise, you can help shape safer, educated, more responsible drivers and make a lasting impact on their lives. Come and join us at the Drive for Life launch. Enjoy a sausage sizzle, hear more about the program and learn how to become a mentor. 🚘 Drive For life - Gympie Launch Day 🚘 Date: Friday 30th August (next Friday) 🚘 Time: 11:00am 🚘 Location: Roadcraft - 22 Dennis Little Drive, Gympie For more information or to sign up as a mentor see the links below or, contact us today. 🚗 Plan Ahead Before hitting the road, ensure you: • Get adequate sleep beforehand • Avoid driving during your normal sleep hours • Steer clear of long drives after a full day's work • Schedule regular rest breaks, at least 15 minutes every 2 hours on long trips • Limit driving to no more than 10 hours per day 🚗 Recognise Fatigue Signals Be mindful of signs such as: • Drifting within or across lanes • Inconsistent speed changes • Yawning frequently • Increased blinking or blurred vision • Difficulty recalling recent driving moments • Slower reaction times or brief 'microsleeps' 🚗 Actively Address Fatigue If fatigue strikes while driving, take immediate action by: • Pulling over at a safe spot like a rest area or 'driver reviver' site for a break or nap • Sharing driving duties if possible • Remember, only sleep can truly combat tiredness; temporary fixes like caffeine or loud music may provide false reassurance. Stay alert, stay safe and prioritise rest on the road! #drivereducation #roadsafety #roadcraft

Ensuring children's safety around roads requires active adult supervision and teaching fundamental road safety rules. Here’s how to promote pedestrian safety: Active Supervision Children under 11-12 years old need constant adult supervision near driveways, cars, roads and parking lots, regardless of their knowledge of safety rules. Hold Hands Always hold your child’s hand around cars as a primary safety measure. Teach Road Safety Educate your child on road safety, including safe behaviours around parked cars, footpaths, and driveways. Lead by Example Demonstrate safe behaviours around vehicles, roads, footpaths and parking areas to set a positive example for your child. Crossing Roads Safely Stop, look, listen and think before crossing any road. Use pedestrian crossings whenever available. Choose the safest crossing point, even if it means walking further. Wait for the green signal when crossing at traffic lights, but don’t trust that the car is going to stop for you. Get eye contact with the driver and make sure they’re going to stop. Avoid Distractions Put away phones and other devices when walking near roads and cars to stay focused on safety. Promote a safe environment for children by reinforcing these essential pedestrian safety practices. #drivereducation #roadsafety #roadcraft
