Rowing Australia (RA) had the pleasure of hosting Australian Sports Commission (ASC) staff for a fun and competitive 'Learn to Row' morning at the Men’s National Training Centre in Canberra! Two Coxed Eights, made up of RA and ASC staff—first-time rowers—were coached by Olympians Simon Keenan (Paris Men’s Pair) and Alexander H. OAM (Paris Men’s Four). After learning the basics of the rowing stroke on land, both crews took to the water for an exciting one-minute race. Australian rowing made history at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 when ✦ Margot Foster AM OLY ✦, with her fellow crew members Robyn Grey-Gardner (Bow Seat), Karen Brancourt (Two Seat), Susan Chapman-Popa (Three Seat), and Sue Brosnan (Coxswain), won Australia’s first-ever Olympic rowing medal for women. The inaugural World Rowing Oceania Youth Athlete Development Training Camp was a significant event held in Sydney, organised by World Rowing and Olympic Solidarity, with endorsement from Rowing Australia and Oceania Rowing Confederation (ORCON); and the on the ground support of equipment, safety, and regatta organisation from Rowing New South Wales. This significant initiative was planned, managed and delivered by the World Rowing Development Team for Oceania, Inas Hussein and Laryssa Biesenthal OLY, Development Manager for Asia and Oceania; and Development Technical Lead Expert for Oceania, respectively. 🏆 Australia A Shines at the 2024 Head of the Shanghai River Regatta 🏆 Our 'Australia A' team put in a stellar performance across two days of racing in Shanghai! The Men’s Eight, coached by Rhett Ayliffe, claimed first place in the 500m sprints, with the Women’s Eight, coached by Hally Chapman, finishing a close second. Rowing NSW will join forces with World Rowing to host the first-ever Oceania Youth Athlete Development Camp & Competition for Beach Sprints in Sydney’s Northern Beaches from September 28 - October 6. The event, supported by Rowing Australia, taking place at Station Beach, aims to foster talent and strengthen the beach sprint discipline across Oceania, particularly athletes born in 2008 and 2009.
