  • Two Machines, One RME Team 👇 RME Customer Service Technicians recently completed a full-scale RME Rebuild Major Service on two RUSSELL Liner Exchange Machines (aged 13 and 21 years!) that had been sitting idle for some time while the site had been in care and maintenance. Revitalising these machines and giving them a new lease on life is incredibly rewarding. It not only benefits mine sites by lowering their total cost of ownership (TCO) over longer asset lifespans, but it's also a more sustainable maintenance practice that minimises raw material consumption associated with new replacements. RME's Major Rebuild Service is a comprehensive program, including: •          Approximately 400 tests and inspections •          Reconditioning or replacement of around 4,500 parts To ensure the longevity and safe operating performance of your equipment, RME supports Customers with highly-informed through-life asset integrity maintenance services. We can also custom-manufacture machine covers to protect equipment from the harsh mining environment between relines. Then, when your equipment reaches the end of its useful life, RME offers a customised asset disposal service that prioritises recycling, repurposing, or responsible waste management to minimise environmental impact. Customer Service Technician at Russell Mineral Equipment

I'm incredibly proud to have been part of the rebuild team for these RUSSELL Liner Exchange Machines.   This particular site had been in care and maintenance until recently, when a new operator took over to revitalise the plant.   On-site was a 1,500 kg capacity RUSSELL 7 Mill Relining Machine #211 (built in 2011), and a 1000 kg capacity RUSSELL 3 Mill Liner Handler #65 (built in 2003). Instead of replacing them, we worked closely with the new operator to restore these machines and give them a second life.   This wasn't a straightforward task, as neither machine had undergone a major service previously. They presented asset integrity and functional challenges, and lacked many of the modern safety and performance upgrades found in newer models.   So, we successfully rebuilt these machines from the ground up! Every bolt, contact block, switch, button, valve, cylinder and hydraulic hose was replaced. Our scope also included a complete sandblast and repaint. These machines are now operating as good as the day left RME’s manufacturing facility 13 and 21 years ago (if not better).   We were also able to complete our service delivery ahead of schedule. Site was impressed by our ability to take ownership of the project and deliver a successful outcome.   Thank you to our Customer for hosting us and trusting our service team.   #WeAreRME

Wrapping up another fantastic AusIMM Mill Operators Conference this week in Perth! MillOps is always invaluable for connecting RME’s application experts with mill operators, and industry partners, including Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) and complementary technology providers. Our team had many insightful discussions, not only about automation but also plant design, liner design optimisation and small mill solutions for reducing risks to reline crews and improving mill availability. To Stephen Gwynn-Jones, thank you for your excellent chairing duties of the Comminution Session on Day 2 of the program.   Thank you also to Simon Thompson for leading the technical session on Day 3, which shared the latest safety and performance data (as presented in our MillOps paper, co-authored by Stephen Gwynn-Jones), along with the valuable lessons learned by our Customers during their automation implementation journeys. Why is mill relining important? Our MILL RELINE DIRECTOR Studies consistently find that replacing worn mill liners accounts for 2% to 5% (and sometimes even as high as 10%) of annual lost mill availability. This makes it one of the most expensive grinding mill maintenance tasks. The value of a 36–40 ft semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill can range from US$80,000 to US$200,000 per hour based on London Metal Exchange (LME) prices of contained metal in ore. Beyond economic considerations, mill relining is also one of the most dangerous above-ground tasks in mining, posing significant risks to reline crews that are comparable to those encountered in underground mining. Mechanisation and automation of mill relining relocates personnel from high-risk areas and confined spaces, and makes the process significantly more efficient, reducing concentrator downtime. Metals and minerals are essential for a net-zero future, but how they are produced matters just as much. RME is committed to being part of the solution. Adam Orlando, Editor-in-Chief of Mining.com.au, explored this issue in a recent article. As part of his investigation, Adam reached out to our Director, Cherylyn Russell, to understand some of the ways our company strives to improve the sustainability of mineral production. “We not only promote it, our products and services are purposefully designed to deliver the environmental and financial benefits of the circular economy,” says Cherylyn Russell. While we are at the beginning of our ESG journey, RME “takes pride in manufacturing high-quality, durable grinding mill relining equipment” that has a longer service life, often exceeding 20 plus years. “By producing longer-lasting equipment and offering highly-informed services for maintaining asset integrity, RME reduces the frequency of equipment replacements, thereby decreasing the resources and energy required for manufacturing new machines. By refurbishing components at the end of their initial service life to like-new condition, RME contributes to waste reduction, minimising the demand for raw materials and energy inputs associated with the production and transportation of new machines,” Cherylyn Russell explained.   RME also offers a customised asset disposal service, which prioritises the use of sustainable disposal methods, including recycling, repurposing or responsible waste management, to reduce environmental impacts. Moreover, we can also offer alternative sharing economy models including rental and product-as-a-service models, which embed and promote sustainability into how business can be conducted. RME’s Aspiration is to improve the human condition through responsible access to metals at lower cost. As a leading Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), RME is dedicated to reducing personnel risk and improving the efficiency of grinding mill maintenance operations. We honour the decades of trust placed in us by our valued Customers, mill operators, equipment users, buyers, and EPCMs. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality, enduring, responsibly manufactured, and upgradable mill relining systems. This ensures operators experience the lowest total cost of ownership, reduced waste, and best safety practices throughout the mine's lifespan.
