Vale Darren West: Co-Founder of Seedlab Australia. Darren West 'left the building' peacefully on Saturday 26th October 2024, surrounded with love and care from his wife Hazel, his sister, and step-daughters Kenna and Rhona. Darren recently developed brain cancer, and in his case it was aggressive and untreatable. He was 55. There would have been no Seedlab without Darren. Darren's contributions to all facets of Seedlab: the back of house systems and resources, the program, the team, the participants and to Woolworths was at all times significant and immense. Seedlab is a family business, and Darren was also husband and business partner to Hazel MacTavish-West, Seedlab CEO, and step-father to Kenna MacTavish, our COO. Our team are all friends as well as colleagues. His untimely death is a great loss to us all. Seize the day. The Celebration of Darren’s life will be held on Thursday 14th November at 10am (AEDT) at Turnbull Funerals, 71 Letitia Street, North Hobart, Tasmania. Smiles all round as we kick off the first ever Bootcamp WOW! 💟 Bootcamp WOW is tailored specifically for new Woolworths Supermarkets suppliers only, supporting them supply well and set up for success as trade partners. This new Bootcamp program emerged from our ongoing partnership with Woolworths Group, as they experience first-hand the impact our programs have on the retail growth of small suppliers in Australia and New Zealand. The Seedlab Bootcamp foundations are all at play, because you still don't know what you don't know! But this program is designed to meet these suppliers where they are at on their journey, and help them grow further as they settle themselves on Woolworths shelves. From costs and customer journey, to NPD and fostering a working relationship with category managers, we are here to support small suppliers make their dreams real in a major supermarket channel. The Seedlab Nurturing Innovation Towers have expanded to six Woolworths Supermarkets! 🤯 After rolling out across five stores in Victoria and New South Wales in August, we’re thrilled to announce that you can now find the #SeedlabTower (as it is being referred to!) in the South Melbourne Woolworths. Fun fact: the Seedlab Tower is the first time (to our knowledge) that Woolworths Supermarkets have combined food and non-food products on the shelf in this way. The tower showcases the diverse range of Seedlab Australia businesses and provides a unique retail opportunity for selected Seedlab participants to gain first-hand experience of the intricacies of supplying a national retailer from logistics and promotions, to customer data and sampling. An unexpected evolution during this process for us has been the group learning that has taken place as half a dozen new suppliers have had their products uploaded onto the Woolworths systems for the first time. They have shared the load of direct store deliveries and formed a WhatsApp group to encourage, support, and help each other. They’ve been sampling in-store like the bosses they are, and we’ve loved their energetic and enthusiastic promotional activities and pictures.
