On day three, we were treated to inspirational tennis legend Ash Barty sharing her thoughts on her amazing tennis career, goal setting, dealing with professional challenges/changes and life after tennis. We then heard from motivational speaker, Ken Allen from Phuel who explored how to manage our 'emotional state' more effectively to gain greater control over our behaviours and results. Key speakers from Sigma Healthcare's health services, operations, retail, marketing, franchise learning, and space planning shared their expertise through hands-on workshops and plenary sessions, and keynote speakers from PharmaPrograms, NostraData, Sciana and Arrotex Pharmaceuticals provided information, new insights and innovations to assist pharmacies to grow their business. On Saturday evening, at our Gala Event, the annual Discount Drug Stores awards were announced where we celebrated our pharmacy and supplier winners for 2024. Our jam-packed day two started with Vikesh Ramsunder, Sigma CEO & MD, providing a Sigma business update to our pharmacy teams before we heard from industry experts, Kos Sclavos AM and Fiona Watson, who shared their perspectives on the future of the pharmacy industry. Key speakers from our private label, demand & supply planning, marketing, merchandise, and space planning teams shared how we’ve built the foundations to drive our future success, and our fantastic Platinum+ sponsor Arrotex Pharmaceuticals shared the exciting new products and ranges launching at Discount Drug Stores over the coming months. A panel of Sigma Senior Leaders answered some pressing questions from our pharmacies, and our friends at Assistance Dogs Australia treated us to some very special furry visitors to share the impact of funds raised from our pharmacies around Australia. We ended the day with a rooftop pool party to share what we’d learned from the day and network with our fellow delegates. Day one of our DDS 2024 National Conference – Solid Ground kicked off yesterday as we welcomed our community pharmacy teams to the beautiful Gold Coast which turned on the sun just for us! We took part in some practical workshops with a wound care refresher from Smith+Nephew, learnt about vaping regulation reforms with Liber Pharmaceuticals and the team at Pitcher Partners showed us how to drive and improve business performance. After these workshops we explored the Supplier Showcase, said hello to supplier friends and made new connections to support our expanding product ranges. The day finished with our Welcome event where we were treated to delicious food and a suite of talented performers – from a caricaturist to a magician and a fortune teller. Tamworth Discount Drug Store pharmacist and business owner, Lia Mahony, a passionate advocate for improving healthcare access, was recently awarded the coveted Noel Park Award for her contribution to her local region. Lia said "This award is usually given to someone at the end of their career. I'm a long way from retiring, so the award was definitely not on my radar at all!" "I always knew that I wanted a job in healthcare, and I also really wanted to stay in a regional or rural area," she said. "So, it was a great fit."
