Brightening the lives of seriously ill children, young people and their families.

About us

Starlight Children's Foundation Australia brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children and young people. When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, life becomes consumed by hospital and treatment. It’s scary and overwhelming. As Australia’s broadest reaching and most reputable children’s charity*, we’ve worked alongside health professionals for over 35 years, helping ‘sick kids’ simply be ‘kids’. Every research-based Starlight program creates much-needed happiness for sick kids and their families. Happiness helps sick kids cope better with the pain and stress of treatment, and helps families feel more connected and positive about what lies ahead. ⭐ That’s why Starlight exists. Because happiness matters. At Starlight, our most important responsibility is to ensure our programs are provided in an environment that is caring, nurturing and safe for all children and young people. We have been awarded full Safeguarding Children accreditation through the Australian Childhood Foundation. Starlight has been recognised as an Employer of Choice over the years, most recently with a Great Place to Work accreditation in 2023. In the 2022 McKinsey Organisational Health Index, Starlight was in the top decile globally for 8 out of 9 outcomes. Starlight was also the Australian Financial Review's Most Innovative Company in the Government, Education and NFP category. *Reptrack Charity Reputation Index, 2022

  • 🤩 When style meets serendipity at Starlight! Now and then, magic happens in the office! ⭐Recently, Molly McCoy from our Volunteer team and Jess Begg from our Community Fundraising team have been unintentionally ‘twinning’ with their outfits. 🌈 It’s a delightful reminder of how collaboration can extend beyond work. This playful coincidence adds some extra fun to our days and sparks conversations and connections across the team….So much so that we are seeing more unintentional matching ensembles in the Hub 👀✨ 💭 Who knew that great teamwork could start with a matching outfit? • ⭐ “Without Starlight, hospital would be unbearable. Arlo gets stronger and feels better more quickly when he’s able to laugh, make jokes and dance around with the Captains. The joy Starlight brings to sick kids is invaluable" - Arlo's mum Georgia. And that's why Starlight exists... because we know #happinessmatters to seriously ill children like seven-year-old Arlo. 💜 At just five weeks old, Arlo was diagnosed with Laryngomalacia - a birth defect that results in a partial blockage of the voice box and causes breathing and feeding difficulties. 💛 Then at 18 months old, Arlo underwent surgery where doctors then discovered that Arlo also has Tracheomalacia – a windpipe disorder that causes the airways to collapse. 🚀 While the hospital has been a constant part of Arlo’s life, Captain Starlight has been there to bring a smile to Arlo’s face.
