Together, we stand with Australians in need until they can stand for themselves.
About us
Mission Australia is a national Christian charity motivated by a shared vision of an Australia where everyone has a safe home and can thrive. Since 1859, we’ve been standing alongside people in need across Australia, offering real hope that has lasting impact. Backed by our supporters, churches, partners and funders, we work together for the long-term wellbeing of anyone who needs us, reflecting our values of respect, compassion, integrity, perseverance and celebration. We collaborate with people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage to tackle the root causes of their challenges through providing access to safe, affordable homes and innovative, evidence-based support services. Every day we deliver homelessness crisis and prevention services, provide social and affordable housing, assist struggling families and children, address mental health issues, fight substance dependencies, support people with disability and much more. Mission Australia believes a person’s circumstances shouldn’t define their future and that given the right support, everyone can reach their full potential. That’s why we stand together with Australians in need, until they can stand for themselves.

🧠The mental health of young Australians has been declining for over two decades. We're joining leading mental health orgs in calling for urgent federal reform and investment to address Australia's youth mental health crisis with: ✔ Free access to mental health care for all young people ✔ Specialist support for those with complex mental health needs ✔ Investment to build an integrated mental health system ✔ Fast-tracked workforce development & investment in digital services ✔ More funding for mental health promotion & prevention ✔ Support for young people in the implementation of new social media regulations. Mental Health Australia Orygen #youthmentalhealth 🙌
Australia is experiencing a youth mental health crisis. It is now urgent that we take action. Today, Orygen has joined the nation's leading youth mental health organisations to call for the implementation of a six-point action plan – one that will tackle this crisis, reflect the overwhelming public support for action, and most importantly, ensure all young Australians can access the mental health care they deserve. We are eager to work with the next federal government to build a stronger youth mental health system through these key priorities: - Free access to mental health care for all young people and children, in line with Mental Health Australia's federal election call - Address the 'missing middle' by building a layer of specialist care for those with more serious and complex mental health needs - Investment to build an integrated mental health system - Fast-tracked workforce development and investment in digital services - Increased funding for mental health promotion and prevention - Support for young Australians in the implementation of new social media regulations. Residents at our social housing complex in Mt Druitt had a special visit today from The Hon. Rose Jackson MLC, NSW Minister for Housing and Homelessness, and Edmond Atalla who got to check out the latest energy upgrades to the 40-unit property — made possible through our partnership with Great Southern Bank. 🌱 As part of our $1 million partnership, the new upgrades include a shared rooftop solar system, projected to save tenants $45 a month on energy bills! 💲 Lower energy bills for our residents means more money for food, healthcare, and other essentials 🎉 A huge thank you to Great Southern Bank for helping us make sustainable living more affordable for our residents. From fresh fades to designer mullets, young people are stepping behind the barber’s chair and learning the skills to shape their futures. Taught by the pros from Fourwalls barbershop, our five-week workshop gives young people hands-on experience and the confidence to pursue apprenticeships and employment opportunities. * The ‘Taster Barbering Workshop’ is a collaboration between Mission Australia’s Reset for Youth and Community First Step.

“Our frontline workers know that $56 a day goes fast and not very far when there is rent, food, bills and healthcare costs to cover…“ - Marion Bennett. The cost-of-living crisis is having a devastating effect on people already doing it tough. We encourage the immediate adoption of the key recommendation in the latest Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee’s latest report. In addition, the following measures will help address the housing and homelessness emergency: ⛏️ Building more social and affordable homes to become 10% of all homes in Australia 🏘️ A $500m Homelessness Prevention Transformation Fund. Yet again, a rigorous analysis has concluded that income support payments like JobSeeker must be increased. This time, it's in the latest report from the Government's own Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee. For the third year running, the Committee has shown how our unacceptably low welfare rates are driving poverty, inequality, homelessness and child deprivation across Australia. Yet again, Mission Australia joins economists, business leaders, researchers, social welfare practitioners and welfare recipients themselves in calling on the Government to #RaiseTheRate

At Mission Australia, we strive towards gender equality. While we’re proud of our progress - our gender pay gap is now 3.3%, down from 4% in 2023 - we know there’s more work to be done. Here are some of the new initiatives we’re launching to move closer towards true gender equality. #MarchForward #InternationalWomensDay2025
-
This #InternationalWomensDay we’re celebrating the incredible women across Australia - our mothers, daughters, colleagues, and those we serve - whose strength and resilience inspire us daily. But as we celebrate, we must also confront the reality: too many women become homeless in Australia. Join our CEO in advocating for gender equality and fighting for policies that address the specific needs of women - particularly in housing, homelessness and poverty. https://lnkd.in/gKw_ZheT
