Brightening the lives of seriously ill children, young people and their families.

About us

Starlight Children's Foundation Australia brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children and young people. When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, life becomes consumed by hospital and treatment. It’s scary and overwhelming. As Australia’s broadest reaching and most reputable children’s charity*, we’ve worked alongside health professionals for over 35 years, helping ‘sick kids’ simply be ‘kids’. Every research-based Starlight program creates much-needed happiness for sick kids and their families. Happiness helps sick kids cope better with the pain and stress of treatment, and helps families feel more connected and positive about what lies ahead. ⭐ That’s why Starlight exists. Because happiness matters. At Starlight, our most important responsibility is to ensure our programs are provided in an environment that is caring, nurturing and safe for all children and young people. We have been awarded full Safeguarding Children accreditation through the Australian Childhood Foundation. Starlight has been recognised as an Employer of Choice over the years, most recently with a Great Place to Work accreditation in 2023. In the 2022 McKinsey Organisational Health Index, Starlight was in the top decile globally for 8 out of 9 outcomes. Starlight was also the Australian Financial Review's Most Innovative Company in the Government, Education and NFP category. *Reptrack Charity Reputation Index, 2022

  • Meet Amy Blomberg, Starlight’s Creative Services Manager 👋⭐ Amy is responsible for leading Starlight’s creative services team and outputs including graphic design, video & copy 🤩 Fun fact: Amy started at Starlight as a Livewire Facilitator! 🤝 When we ask Amy’s team members about her impact at Starlight, they light up, sharing how her superpower is being a positive energizer! 🤩 She brings fun, good vibes, and creative flair, all while shining brightly for sick kids in everything she does. ✨ When asking Amy why she loves working at Starlight, she said: “I have such a solid work-life balance, so much leadership support, great people to work with who I genuinely admire and look up to, and I contribute to a purpose that makes a real difference in the lives of sick kids and their families. That to me is MORE than what I could hope for out of a job.”

  • 🎁🧸9 Starlight children were enlisted to become the 2024 Amazon Playmakers, given the important task of being the official toy testers for Amazon’s Top 100 Toys List. ⭐🎄 With a little help from Hi-5’s Charli Robinson, our Playmakers put the toys to the test to make holiday shopping easier… and had plenty of fun while they were at it (because fun is serious business). You can check out the Top 100 Toys List now (Link in the comments) ⬇️ 🙏 Thank you Amazon for giving sick kids this opportunity full of fun & positive distraction. • Today is Children’s Day 🌈🤩 At Starlight, we know happiness matters to seriously ill children. 🙏 You can help bring happiness to these children by donating. If you donate today, your donation will be matched by our generous partners at Qudos Bank Arena… doubling your impact! ⭐ Let's make the hospital a happier place together for sick kids like Mia Rose. 💜💛 Mia Rose, just two months old, was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer affecting both her eyes. She has endured over 20 gruelling rounds of treatment, including invasive laser treatment. Fortunately, through it all, Captain Starlight has been by her side every step of the way, providing essential moments of joy and positive distraction.

  • 💛💜 If Lexi’s parents Renee and Evan had the opportunity to speak directly to those who support Starlight, they'd like to share this heartfelt message; 'It's difficult to realise how important donations really are until you go through it and see it for yourselves. The fact there is a foundation set up with a single purpose of putting a smile on kids' faces is the most heart-warming thing ever - and seeing that smile on your own child's face in times of high stress and worry often puts a smile on your own face too! That has to be good, right?"

  • 🤩 Building joy, one Lego brick at a time… ⭐ 3,564,894 Lego pieces went into this out-of-this-world Lego Starlight logo, built by Starlight supporter and fundraiser Josh. Not only did he create this masterful piece in September, but Josh also helped brighten the lives of over 81 seriously ill children as a Starlight Tour de Kids fundraiser, truly embodying what it means to #SHINE brightly. 👏 To Josh and all our Tour de Kids fundraisers, we can’t thank you enough! It’s fantastic to see this incredibly creative use of Lego… a perfect reminder that every ‘piece’ of support contributes to our mission to bring happiness to seriously ill children. the LEGO Group also supports Starlight, helping to bring fun, play, and positive distraction to sick kids across the country. 🙏✨
