Very interesting data just released showing the huge impact of #EAP services in Australia and New Zealand. This research was performed by the Employee Assistance Professional Association of Australasia, and sponsored by leading EAP providers, including Tacklit customers. In 2023, over 1.1 million people benefitted from human-powered support, representing 16.4% of employees covered, with 92% of customers satisfied with services received. The report also highlights that human-to-human support delivers the most effective outcomes. At Tacklit we could not agree more! We work tirelessly to deliver technology capability that amplifies human impact, rather than replace it. Here is to all EAP professionals out there who deliver an invaluable service on the mental health frontline! We are pleased to share that, together with the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi), Allied Health Professions Australia, and other leading organisations, Tacklit has signed up as a founding member of the CSIRO's Sparked AU initiative, to drive interconnectivity of health information across the Australian ecosystem. Tacklit's purpose is to enable proactive, personalised and outcome driven mental health care, and we therefore fully support interconnectivity standards. Because patients have enough on their plate focusing on getting better, and should not have to worry about disjointed systems and data. #patientexperience #mentalhealth #digitalhealth #fhir

Congratulations to Professor Shantha Wilson Rajaratnam, Jane Burns, and all others involved in the establishment of Australia’s first National Centre for Workplace Mental Health and Wellbeing. This much needed initiative is now a reality with WorkSafe Victoria’s foundational investment, and with 40 other organisations giving an in-principle commitment of over $50million. Shantha, Jane, Monash Psychological Sciences, and the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health have been Tacklit friends and supporters from the beginning, and we wish them all the success with this initiative! A call out to our partners at HELM and Caraniche for the successful launch of their Power2Change digital gambling program 🙌 🎉 With so much media attention on the known harms of gambling, HELM has remained focused on developing an evidence based structured counselling program that builds insight into gambling behaviour, addresses factors that contribute to excessive gambling, and builds motivation to change - handing people back control of their lives. Using digital activities to augment delivery - both in session and outside - showcases the potential for highly engaging, highly effective interventions.   Tacklit is proud to be the technology partner supporting this innovative work. Congratulations to Jacinta Pollard, Anne-Maree Szauer (GAICD), Amanda Mechanic, Sophie Aitken, Rosalind H., Melanie Bretillard, Chris Parr, Alana Johnston, Lauren Giarrusso and all those involved in bringing this to life! #gambling #mentalhealth #onlinegambling #gamblingharm #harmreduction

A recent paper in The Lancet Psychiatry provides peer-reviewed evidence of something our mental healthcare service provider customers are finding in the frontline. If deployed correctly, technology can amplify the efficiency and reach of mental health interventions, without sacrificing effectiveness. As explained in the summary published by Helen Dodd in André Tomlin's great mental health blog, digitally augmented CBT for child anxiety has achieved comparable outcomes, while only consuming 59% of therapist time, if compared to treatment as usual. A massive congratulations to the team at Orygen for the publication of this landmark report in The Lancet. The findings are shocking but not surprising for those on the frontline, and strong action is needed. “It is now accepted that mental ill-health is the primary threat to the health, wellbeing and productivity of young people, but while it accounts for 45 per cent of disease globally in those aged 10 to 24 years – only 2 per cent of global health budgets are allocated to addressing it.” Tacklit is proud to be the technology partner of so many care organisations delivering on many aspects of the models-of-care recommended in the report. Today marks a significant milestone – not just for Orygen, but for youth mental health globally. That's because The Lancet Psychiatry Commission on youth mental health, a major publication led by Orygen and developed by a global consortium of world-leading experts, is now live. As the first ever stocktake on the state of youth mental health worldwide, it examines megatrends driving the crisis and offers evidence-based solutions to pave a way forward. Part of the answer is for clinical leaders to build and grow their own practices into platforms, serving their community with aligned values towards therapists and patients. A major obstacle to this is access to world class, affordable technology to amplify clinical capability. This is the obstacle our team is working to remove. Thanks Steve Duke for a great article on a critical issue.

There's a huge tension between providers and platforms in mental health right now. I spent the week trying to understand what's happening and how we can solve it. Here's what I learned: 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞; ↘ They aren't compensated fairly for their work ↘ They are put under significant pressure to meet company requirements around case loads and other measured criteria ↘ They are not adequately represented in company leadership ↘ They don’t receive adequate support (supervision, communication regarding scheduling etc. ) ↘ The MH platforms prioritise profits over patients and providers ↘ MH platforms don’t maintain ethical practices ↘ The MH platforms compromise on quality of care ↘ MH platforms don’t communicate with them well (there is a lack of transparency, frequency and an ability to listen to their concerns) 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞; ↘ MH platforms have disrupted the harmony between the "work" and "labour" of therapy ↘ There's been a failure to translate incentives into rewards and compensation that aligns behaviours (e.g., platforms haven't given equity to providers) ↘ Market fundamentals such as low willingness to pay for mental health and the inability for platforms to affect the levels of supply create caps on rates and pressure on margins ↘ The brand of tech is challenged (especially within the provider community) making it hard to shift perceptions for those platforms that are actually getting it right 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨? 1️⃣  Make provider relations a company priority. This includes clinical representation in leadership, creating accountability at the board level and to actually track and improve provider relationships. 2️⃣  Rebuild trusted brands. Walk the walk first. Then, and only then, talk the talk. Build a brand that is know for treating providers better than anyone else. 3️⃣ Fairly compensate providers. Yes, this probably means paying them more. But it also means being fair and transparent with your compensation policies. How do you do this without eroding margin (see below). 4️⃣ Deliver two sided value to maintain margins. Double down on creating additional value for payers and providers. The price you can charge payers is determined by how much value they can deliver to them. The rate providers will accept is determined by how much value the platform adds to providers’ lives. Your margin is determined by the value you create for both these parties. Check the comments for more details. 5️⃣ 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 ___ P.S.
