As buildings consume more than 15% of global fresh water each year, it is incumbent on the industry to ensure water efficiency is a key feature of our assets. Most green building ratings systems and frameworks look to tackle water consumption, efficiency and innovation as a key performance metric, leaving substantial opportunity for good water practices to improve a building's green rating performance. In this article, our Director of ESG & Sustainability Rebecca Jinks and Program Manager Dwayne Kaan provide a green building rating and framework assessment, and consider how thoughtful water management, consumption and control can contribute to improving many global green building ratings. How are asset owners transforming their buildings into virtual billboards? Modern augmented reality (AR) technology has evolved beyond a novelty. Today, AR enables the display of virtual content on buildings worldwide, effectively turning every structure into a potential content canvas and advertising space. Assets can become powerful digital marketing channels, turning storefronts, office entrances, heritage sites and development hoardings into interactive digital canvases that drive next-level engagement for brands and precincts. In this article, Dominic Collins, CEO & Co-founder of Darabase (a Taronga Ventures portfolio company), highlights how asset owners and operators are using AR as a tool for placemaking and revenue generation. He also covers how they are using Property Digital Rights (PDRs) to control and protect their properties from unsolicited AR use on their buildings and ensure legitimate monetisation of their assets. In the pursuit of a sustainable future, a focus on cleaner energy solutions is only part of the equation. The real challenge lies in the social considerations of how these solutions are brought to end customers, communities, asset owners, and project developers. In this thoughtful article, Kristy Battista, CTO Global and GM Australia at Allume (a Taronga Ventures portfolio company) explores the cultural and community considerations of sustainable technologies, and how implementation must be done with care and consideration. She explains, "It’s not enough to dictate what needs to be done; it’s crucial to explain why it matters. Engaging stakeholders on the ‘why’ behind clean energy solutions builds trust, buy-in and empowerment, essential for sustainable adoption." Kristy also discusses the role of national sustainable policies and programs across Australia, Europe, the USA and globally, and their flow-on effects in shaping communities to empowering individuals and families. Innovation and heritage in action; London visitors were cordially invited to explore the historic neighbourhood of Mayfair using augmented reality. In 2022, Grosvenor, who have stewarded Mayfair for over 300 years sought to bring the fashionable streets of Mayfair to life with an AR walking tour that showcased the London neighbourhood’s rich history of art, society, architecture and fashion. The AR project, delivered by Taronga Ventures portfolio company Darabase, featured a multi-sensory, guided tour of Mayfair, narrated by Kathryn Drysdale aka Genevieve Delacroix in Netflix’s Bridgerton. The tour centred around Grosvenor Square, home to the Bridgerton family. Darabase created a series of eight immersive AR experiences that allowed visitors to use their smartphones to go back in time, viewing interactive digital content overlaid on real-world locations. The “In a Mayfair Fashion” campaign increased footfall and dwell time to Mayfair’s world-renowned streets and public spaces, resulting in increased turnover for the world-class boutiques and hotels in the neighbourhood.
