Last week was Seniors Week, and we were thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with COTA Tasmania as a major sponsor of their events across the state. This year's theme, Connecting Generations, provided a wonderful opportunity for us all to engage in meaningful conversations and learn from one another. We hosted five informative sessions focused on increasing energy literacy in Tasmania, empowering our customers to make informed decisions about their energy use and ultimately reduce their energy bills. A big thank you to our Power People Project partners from the The Tasmanian Men's Shed Association, who facilitated educational sessions in Kingston, Rosny Park, Launceston, Devonport, and Smithton. Attendees asked insightful questions about appliance efficiency, understanding their bills, and finding ways to save money on at home through simple changes. We thank Aurora Energy for their commitment to working with us on the development of the Power People Project.

TasNetworks has submitted the Contingent Project Application (CPA) to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) to obtain the revenue allowances necessary to undertake early works associated with Stage 1 of the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD). Undertaking early works activities provide confidence to customers that they will pay no more than the efficient cost of delivering Stage 1 of the NWTD. TasNetworks has chosen to stage the cost recovery process by submitting multiple CPAs for the first stage of the NWTD. The first CPA (CPA 1) seeks to recover early works costs and the second CPA (CPA 2) will be for construction costs. CPAs are necessary for large investments that are made outside of TasNetworks’ standard business as usual expenditure. The AER now has 40 business days to make their determination on the efficiency and prudency of our costs. The AER is accepting submissions until 15 November 2024. The Wynyard Tulip Festival bloomed on Saturday with huge crowds of people attending to join in the fun! Our team had a great time chatting with community members interested to know more about the North West Transmission Developments project and the broader work we do at TasNetworks. We even had some furry friends stop by, as well as the SES Mascot, Paddy Platypus! If you couldn't make it to the festival, feel free to reach out to us with any questions about the NWTD project. We're here to keep the conversation going. Email nwtd@tasnetworks.com.au | https://lnkd.in/g69uDaJP

The City of Burnie Lions Club offers sewing sessions to give local community members the skills they need to mend or adapt their own clothes. This has been particularly useful for parents needing to mend school uniforms. TasNetworks is proud to support this initiative, which aims to assist with cost-of-living pressures. On the day of filming, participants made 45 neck warmers (35 donated to the Vinnies Winter Appeal and 10 to take home). TasNetworks is pleased to support such an important initiative, given young people in Tasmania face higher levels of digital exclusion than anywhere else in Australia. Access to a computer can make the difference between getting an empowering education or missing out; between seizing life and career opportunities, or never knowing they existed; between staying connected with distant loved ones, or drifting apart. It’s a great example of what can be achieved when businesses and community organisations work together.

WorkVentures is embarking on a mission to bring greater access to all Australians. With support from Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF), we are partnering with Anglicare Tas Inc, Tasmanian Council of Social Service and TasNetworks to establish a pilot digital inclusion program in Tasmania. This program will provide refurbished laptops, internet connectivity and tailored digital literacy training to digitally excluded students, critical to improving educational outcomes in a state with the lowest digital literacy scores in the country (ADII 2023). It is through the continued dedication and partnership with incredible organisations like these that we are able to support students and achieve a more inclusive and accessible Australia.
