Waiting for funder decisions can feel like being in limbo. ⚖️ Having a plan that keeps you moving forward is key. Here's how to strategically respond to different situations: Waiting - BEFORE the expected decision date ↪️ Continue building relationships ↪️ Stay across planning scenarios so you can hit the ground running if funded ↪️ Keep tracking other potential funding opportunities ❎️ No need to contact the funder to check on their decision timeline unless warranted Still waiting - AFTER the expected decision date ↪️ Prepare your team for possible project delays ↪️ Continue pursuing alternative funding options ✅️ Send a polite enquiry email requesting an updated timeline or to see if the funder needs more information When you receive a "NO" ↪️ Request feedback - and be specific ↪️ Thank the funder for their consideration and express interest in future opportunities ↪️ Debrief with your team so you can improve future approaches ↪️ Regroup to determine next steps for the project When you receive a "YES" 🎉 ↪️ Send a formal thank you note (call too, if appropriate) ↪️ Review the funder's letter or agreement carefully for reporting requirements and restrictions ↪️ Inform stakeholders, provided information is not confidential 🗓 Create a reporting calendar Many organisations miss critical steps, even though these may seem straightforward.
