FSANZ has launched a series of ‘how to’ videos to guide users of the online Nutrition Panel Calculator (NPC). The NPC is a tool to help food manufacturers calculate the average nutrient content of their food products and prepare a nutrition information panel (NIP). It is a great resource for dietitians, regulators, caterers and consumers who want to better understand the contents of recipes. The Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code outlines that most pre-packaged food products for retail consumption in Australia and New Zealand must accurately display nutrition information on the packet. To help food businesses meet these requirements, FSANZ developed the NPC as a simple, cost-effective method to determine the contents of their products. The NPC calculates the nutrient content of recipes and generates a Nutrition Information Panel (NIP) for product labels. Video’s include: 🔹 Quick Start Guide 🔹 Custom Ingredient Guide 🔹 Backup & Restore Guide 🔹 Ingredient Search Guide You can access the Nutrition Panel Calculator and videos here - https://lnkd.in/gUjcVVCx #AIFST #FoodScience #FoodScienceandTechnology #Nutrition Michael Depalo Fiona Fleming Anna Barlow Angeline Achariya (GAICD) Gregory Harper Anne-Marie Mackintosh Food Standards Australia New Zealand Kim Tikellis Dr Emma Beckett Damien Belobrajdic Melissa Garland Sarah Crisp Chantel Corless Kerry Rogers Dietitians Australia

Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s AIFST Qld Branch Food Waste & Nutrition Workshop! It was an incredible evening filled with valuable insights and hands-on learning. We were fortunate to have talented chef and food technologist Chantel Corless wow us with her delicious and innovative recipes using food ingredients that would have gone into the waste stream. They included minestrone soup with sourdough bread, aromatic vegetable fritters, aquafaba meringue with Tasmanian pepperberry and strawberries, and avocado chocolate mousse! Edible cutlery provided forks and chocolate straws. Chantel also provided practical, easy-to-follow tips for reducing waste both at home and in the workplace. Kerry Rogers presented on the nutritional benefits of the two hero ingredients of the evening, broccoli and avocado; Leanne Singleton from FoodSure shared an overview of food waste in Australia, and researcher Jia En Sit led an engaging discussion on date and storage labelling. A huge thank you to Professor Heather Smyth for hosting the event at the fantastic Sensory Laboratory at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI), St Lucia site. Special recognition to Lata Masih, who did an amazing job as MC, ensuring the evening ran smoothly and all the AIFST Qld Branch team! Thank you to our event partners ASKAFOODTECH PTY LTD, AustChilli Group, and Edible Cutlery for their generous support. Artificial intelligence is making strides in the nutrition space, but should it be trusted for meal planning? A recent study in Nutrition Research explored whether AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Bard (now Gemini) can create meal plans that meet dietary reference intakes (DRI) for different dietary patterns (omnivorous, vegetarian, vegan). Results? While most meal plans met DRIs for protein, they lacked in energy, carbohydrates, Vitamin D, and B12, with vegan diets being particularly insufficient. These tools maybe useful for individuals looking for general dietary inspiration, but they should not be relied on to create nutritionally adequate meal plans, especially for individuals with restrictive dietary needs. ➡️ Read the research paper here - https://lnkd.in/gqymK73T Don't rely on an online search only from an AI chatbot, talk to the food professionals and food scientists! ➡️ Learn more about food science and the AIFST at www.aifst.asn.au #AIFST #foodscience #nutrition #AI Michael Depalo Fiona Fleming Anna Barlow Gregory Harper Marc Barnes Angeline Achariya (GAICD) Dr Emma Beckett Flávia Fayet-Moore Anne-Marie Mackintosh Damien Belobrajdic Anneline Padayachee [PhD] Melinda Stewart Emma Norgrove Dr Alan Barclay Anne-Marie Mackintosh Amanda Grech Katherine La Macchia Bettina Hieronimus Simon Hammann Dr. Maren Podszun University of Hohenheim
