Another thoughtful event delivery. Working with a new brand to the Australian market like Leapmotor (who is driving innovation in the EV space) is exactly why we do what we do. Well done team!

🚗🌱 We took a giant leap with Leapmotor (and it landed well... )   The Bite Project team and I were thrilled to get to deliver a successful investor event recently for Leapmotor, the latest addition to Australia’s electric vehicle market. This event was an opportunity to showcase Leapmotor’s industry leading technology and introduce potential car dealers to the first car that will launch here, the award winning C10.   EVs are going to play a pivotal role in reducing Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions. Giving Aussies more choice makes the world of electric vehicles more accessible to everyone. It’s rewarding to help kick off such a great new brand into Australia.   The BITE in The Bite Project stands for “big ideas, thoughtful experiences”. Working with a client like Leapmotor who is driving innovation in the EV space is exactly why we do what we do.   We had dealers 'jump in' on the opportunity and the vehicles at 524 FLINDERS EVENT SPACE, a great minimalist warehouse space in the CBD that we knew would be ideal to show off Leapmotor's technology and style. And we couldn’t think of a better way to cap off the business portion of the event than with a tailored food and wine experience at Vue De Monde.   Thanks to everyone involved, especially Juliet Xu as the project lead and Andy Hoang for allowing us to jump in and help him land this great leap for Leapmotor.    #TheBiteProject #Leapmotor #JumpIn #ElectricVehicles #EVs #Sustainability #TechEvents #Innovation #FutureOfTransport #EventManagement #Australia

Our lovely producer Lucy Rogers sharing her thoughts on her recent experiences in Hong Kong. If you want to know a great reason for being in events 👇

As an event producer, attention to detail is so important. It’s what takes an experience from just great to exceptional.   I recently had the privilege of visiting Hong Kong on a famil hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board 🇭🇰    After checking in to the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, we found a custom newspaper article waiting in our room. It was a great way to welcome us and it showed they really knew their audience.   We had an action-packed 4 days:  📍Informative hotel and venue inspections including the Police Married Quarters, Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Tai Kwun, Auberge Discovery Bay, Lantau Yacht Club, Island Shangri La & the Xiqu Centre.  📍Lots of site-seeing! We visited The Peak, the sky100 Observation Deck, experienced an Aqua Luna Dim Sum Cruise, and enjoyed a personal Wet Market Tour. 📍Some unique custom experiences including a ceramic painting workshop, a cocktail session at the Aubrey (ranked #10 in the 2024 Asia's 50 Best Bars Awards – can confirm they were amazing cocktails!) and a traditional cooking class. 📍We were lucky enough to enjoy a stay at the Mandarin Oriental and Kerry Hotel - both of which were stunning hotels in prime locations with 5-star facilities.   Thank you to Cathay Pacific for flying us safely (and comfortably!) from Australia & New Zealand ✈   It was so great to meet other MICE planners from all over ANZ - Marlena Attard Toni Fan Joelle Talbot Victoria Wales Tanya Taber Hannah Bignold Haylee McPherson Nick Giannaras Kathy & Shane!   This was my first time visiting Hong Kong, and it is safe to say, I will be back! HK has so much to offer for individual travellers but also event planners looking for their next event destination, whether it be for an incentive trip or large conference. Thanks HKTB for the opportunity to visit and The Bite Project for allowing me the flexibility to take a few days away from my day-to-day for what was an incredible 'work' trip!   #eventproducer #corporateevents #mice #worktrip #hongkong

Events can be incredibly wasteful. We at The Bite Project are extremely conscious of it at every event we deliver. It was while running an event catering business that Ronni Kahn, founder of OzHarvest, noticed the waste and decided to do something about it. This is why OzHarvest, for us, is a perfect fit for our T-time team days. (T-time is short for thoughtful time and is a day every year we take as a team and as individuals to do something thoughtful). Getting your people together to do something like this is a great way to: ⚡ bond - teamwork is the dreamwork ⚡ inspire - team feeling flat? Get them out together doing something different ⚡ reiterate core values - sustainability is a key part of our value - thoughtful - this provided the team with hands-on experience with this 👇 This is some amazing team being, inspiration, and thoughtfulness right here.

At The Bite Project we offer a free day to our people each year to use for their own thoughtful activity, e.g. cultural, creative, educational, volunteering, family time etc. We call it T-time, a.k.a “thoughtful time”. We also have an annual team T-Time where we all get together to do an activity. This year it was a team volunteering day. Doing volunteering as a team can be a great way to encourage staff to volunteer without them having to organise it off their own back - and by showing them it’s a company commitment that leadership are on board with (not just lip service). This year the team headed over to Port Melbourne to do “Cooking for a Cause” with OzHarvest. This is a great initiative as it has a range of important benefits - education, helping the environment and assisting those in need. We learnt about zero-waste cooking, sustainability…and some handy cooking skills. During our session our team was able to make use of surplus food rescued from landfill to make gourmet meals. These were then sent off to feed people in vulnerable communities. Learning that Australians throw 1 in every 5 grocery bags in the bin has definitely made me think about food waste at home more seriously. It was a nice way to get out of the office, connect with the team and feel good doing something that helps a very worthy cause. 💪 Achievements 17 sticky date puddings 69 mushroom & veg pockets 60ish people fed 10kg of food rescued from landfill Organising a team day for a cause that aligns with everyone’s values is a great way to give back - and have fun while doing it. #volunteering #teambuilding #cookingforacause #ozharvest #sustainability

So how does a start up start? This is our story through Marcus FitzGerald ‘s lens.

Project Director & Co-Founder @ The Bite Project ⚡ Australian Small Event Agency of the Year

Someone recently asked me why Rowena Horne, Stephanie Bradshaw and myself started The Bite Project. So - Row was my boss, Steph was the Creative Director and I was a Senior Producer at an employee comms and events agency. We always knew when us 3 worked together we always did the best work. We were quite different and had different skills but together we just gelled. People did joke that we should go into business together, but it was never taken that seriously. Fast forward a few years and I'd just started freelancing, Steph had been out on her own for a while and Row was suddenly out of a job due to covid downsizing. Suddenly we were all free agents at the same time. The timing was right. So over lunch on the eve of another Melbourne lockdown we thought, "Why not give it a go? What's the worst thing that could happen starting an events company during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic?" People thought we were a little insane, we could see the looks on some peoples faces as we broke the news - but we saw it as an opportunity to get our ducks in a row. Our ethos has always been to build the trust and relationships through doing great work rather than gift of the gab. None of us love networking and wooing and sales stuff. We’ve learnt how important it is that we all get along. That we all respect work life balance and avoid burnout at all costs. If we have a long day onsite I’ll make sure I start late or finish up early the next day so I can spend time with my 1 year old. The three of us trust each other. And that’s the same with our clients. If we work together once, we always end up working together again. Finding the right people is always the key - whether it’s staff, clients or business partners. Whoever it is, the same fundamental things are important. Trust, clear communication, passion, fairness. At the end of the day, the decision to start The Bite Project was based on trusting our gut and valuing how lucky we were to find that great working relationship. 3 years later we have: ⚡Built a much loved team who do some awesome work and are a joy to work with ⚡Earned the trust of some of Australia's most well known and respected corporate clients ⚡Delivered events all over Australia and South East Asia ⚡Set ourselves ambitious goals over the next 2, 5 & 10 years #events #eventsagency #startup #bigideasthoughtfulexperiences

Do you need help running events? We've got you covered!

Whoever created the saying "If you need it done, give it to a busy person" was a bit of a bastard... One thing we've noticed working on lots of events is that good people who do good work at a high standard are rewarded with being given even more work with ever-increasing expectations. For example: · The executive assistant so detail oriented their boss thinks they can easily whip up an engaging staff event at short notice · The speaker asked to do a talk with just 2 days' notice because it sat in someone's inbox for 2 months - but the person handling it figured they'd still do a pretty good job last-minute · A brand marketer focused on an important product launch who is now expected to organise an event as well · Someone on the comms team who knows nothing about events, who has, for some reason, become the go-to person to run events. Often this is how we become engaged in a project. A person with lots to do already in their job has been handballed an event to work and just doesn't have the capacity... If you need to convince your higher-ups you need a hand, we've put together some solid talking points. #events #projectmanagement #managingup #agency

If you’re holding an event, have you considered how much it focuses around alcohol? I think Dry July is a good opportunity to chat about it. I’m not doing Dry July but I tend not to drink much these days. The older I get the worse those hangovers are 😁 Culturally, we’re seeing a big move away from the booze. Plenty of research shows that young people are drinking less - and more of them are choosing not to drink altogether. This is a great way to be more inclusive of different lifestyles and cultures. It also minimises the risk of embarrassment, bad decisions, and sore heads and ensures people are more focused on the program you've carefully curated. Some ways your event can move away from booze: - Hold more alcohol-free lunch-time events - Provide a selection of thoughtfully chosen alcohol free options (there's so much more to choose from these days than just water, coke or lemonade) - Focus networking or staff events on an activity rather than alcohol - Have one big “party” event at the end of your conference, rather than every night #dryjuly #eventproduction #bigideasthoughtfulexperiences

I’ve been noticing a trend lately… small agencies are popping up and taking clients from big agencies. A while back we won a large well-known tech client from a big event agency because we were more agile, more personal, and had fewer layers. The role we play is small and drumbeat level - regular business to employee engagements. They wanted an agency that could feel like an extension of their team without layers of people and therefore layers of chargeable hours. They wanted high quality attention to detail for good value rates. When you work with a small agency you regularly talk to the business owners. That's a big win. I’ve noticed this across different types of agencies and industries (#events, #advertising, #branding). Something is happening! I also keep hearing about big agencies rejecting more experienced and 'expensive' staff for the young guns. Probably to save money, a bit of ageism. But do they not realise they should keep the experienced staff to mentor these young guns? I watched a webinar recently where 🌈 Cherie Clonan was telling Ryan Kelly about how The Digital Picnic just landed a big client that they didn’t think would go with a small agency. She said the best way for teams to get the most out of their external agency is to look at who is doing their strategy. She talked about the “sweatshop” mentality of some big agencies. Lots of junior employees who are stressed out, overworked, and not very inspired. (By the way you should watch the webinar - it’s excellent! I’ll pop the link in comments) Lots of similar themes going on. Obviously, I think these are good reasons to switch to a small agency… Here's a snapshot why: 🚀 The ability to be quick and nimble 🌟 The level of service 🤝 Face time with senior staff 💡 Positive work culture 💰 Cutting unnecessary costs in a difficult economic climate Has anyone else noticed this? Why do you think this is happening? #agencies #bigagency #smallbusiness"

Say hello to The Bite Project’s newest team member and Content Marketing Specialist, Rose Callaghan!     Does she look familiar? Rose loves a cheeky LinkedIn post about the workplace, and her fun take on the #opentowork picture frame went far and wide.     👩💻She comes to us with almost 2 decades of experience in copywriting, content strategy, and digital.    🥳She’s no stranger to the events world – Rose is a professional stand-up comedian and public speaker. She says her professional events highlight was a work trip to Summernats – I think we can top that at The Bite Project.   🧠Rose is passionate about increasing education about ADHD and is an ambassador for ADHD Australia.

👇This is the best kind of success story.

One of our biggest client advocates recently told me she didn’t want to hire us and was determined not to like us when we first met. And it was actually one of the best compliments I've ever received. Honestly - her thought process was completely understandable. She’d had bad experiences with event planners before: 📌 Over-promising and under-delivering… 📌 With no attention to detail and no accountability… 📌 Throwing up problems without solutions… 📌 Adding no value… 📌 But adding charge after charge to the budget… 📌 And with lower standards than what she had herself. She didn't trust an event agency to run her event for her. She said she just ended up doing it all herself anyway and then paying a lot of money, so what was the point? Obviously, we didn’t know all this at the time and just went about doing what we do, which (spoiler alert) is none of the above. By the end of project #1 she was a convert, and it has just built from there. Now she doesn’t want to work with anyone else. Turning around her perceptions was incredibly satisfying for me and the rest of The Bite Project team. Over the lifespan of nine+ projects, we’ve built a team-wide relationship based on trust, openness, (decent grammar!), and time in the trenches together. She knows we can deliver what we promise, that we truly take on her objectives and deadlines as our own, and that we all give a sh$%t. So, we’re busy making her look good, and she sees the value a true events partnership can bring. If you’re doubtful you need an event agency or that we can help improve what you do, we’re up for the challenge and would like nothing more than to try to change your mind. Feel free to send me a message if you'd like to have a chat. 😀
