About us

The Blackstone Society is the official student society for the University of Western Australia Law School. Founded in 1928, it is now one of the largest student societies in Western Australia, supporting a community of over 1,000 highly driven and ambitious students. As a student-run organisation, Blackstone aims to enrich the university experience by connecting students from all legal backgrounds with industry-leading firms. We support our members through educational initiatives, career development opportunities, advocacy competitions, social events, equity programs, and wellness activities. With the support of a diverse range of sponsors, we provide essential resources, valuable experiences, and networking opportunities through various events and initiatives. We actively engage with students and industry partners on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, ensuring strong connections with the legal community and beyond.

I am a student at the University of Western Australia, currently in my penultimate year of the Juris Doctor.

Looking forward to the year ahead with The Blackstone Society and my role as Social Vice-President😊📚🕺🏼 My amazing social team and I are tasked with creating events across 2025 for UWA law students and to ensure everybody has a chance to create friendships and memories that will last well beyond our JD years🥳💃🏽 I’m also lucky enough to be apart of an amazing executive team who also have their portfolios to run. We all work together to achieve our one main goal—to look after the JD students🤩✅ Excited to see what’s install for the rest of the year!😊🎉

Social Work graduate of Curtin University, 2021 Juris Doctor student at UWA 2025 Equity Vice President for the UWA Blackstone Society. Senior Social Worker - Perth Children’s Hospital, Child Protection Unit

Because I wasn't busy enough with completing my JD studies and my Social Work career, I decided to take on another role.. I'm excited to share that for 2025 I am the Equity Vice-President for the The Blackstone Society. In 2024 I was the Women's Representative and thoroughly enjoyed my time putting together events that sparked inclusion and conversation. However, I knew I wanted to do more within Blackstone. To be the Equity Vice-President means more to me than just the title. As a Social Worker the role feels very aligned to my values and practice. I am excited to introduce some new initiatives in 2025 that are close to home and to have an amazing team beside me. I hope to see you all at the events being organised by the Equity Portfolio in 2025!!

On December 1st I will officially conclude my tenure as President of The Blackstone Society for 2024. It gives me great pride to announce that Callum Lindsay will take over the reigns as the Society’s 97th President. I have absolutely loved my time as President. I am so proud to have contributed to the UWA Law School community, and I have a deep appreciation for the strong relationships I have created over my three years on the committee. I am also incredibly proud of the Society’s achievements this year, to name a few: - advocating for the successful implementation of lecture transcripts in all law units in semester 2; - ensuring a dedicated silent study space for all JD and legal masters students; - expansion of our corporate sponsorship; and - expansion of alternative legal pathways events, including the introduction of the ‘Associateship Panel Evening’. Thank you to all the Society’s sponsors. Your generous support has enabled us to achieve significant outcomes for UWA law students. I also want to thank UWA Law School, in particular Sharon Mascher and Fiona McGaughey, for their guidance and commitment to the Society and law students. To my 2024 team - thank you all for your hard work and commitment. And thank you to my amazing executive, I am so proud of you all! In addition, I would like to thank the immediate past President Claudia Monterosso for your year-round support. The 2023 committee set a high bar for us to follow. To Callum and the incoming 2025 executive, I cannot wait to see the amazing work you will do next year. Best of luck!
