🤦♀️ Another year, another research report confirming what we already know: too many internal communication professionals are stuck in tactics over strategy, execution over impact, noise over influence. The 2025 Gallagher – Employee Experience & Communication State of the Sector report lays it bare – internal communication professionals who fail to quantify their value, build strategic relationships, and leverage data to drive business results are getting left behind. ➡️ 49% of internal communication professionals are responsible for attracting candidates – yet 1 in 3 or more aren’t even tracking performance against this metric. ➡️ 44% cite change fatigue as one of the biggest barriers to success – but only 2 in 5 have personally reviewed a listening strategy to understand employees’ real concerns. ➡️ 87% say they proactively advise leaders, yet just 70% say their advice is implemented – meaning almost a third are ignored. ➡️ 93% are accountable for employee engagement, yet only 71% track it as a business metric. ➡️ 1 in 5 submit data reports to leaders that leave leaders wondering: "So what?" And then, when political leaders like Australian Opposition Leader Peter Dutton dismisses our profession, we act outraged. But let’s be honest: he’s not the only one who thinks internal communication doesn’t add value. How many business leaders in your own organisation feel the same way? 👉 If you’re not proving your worth, you’re part of the problem. This is exactly what I’ll be unpacking with Sharn Kleiss – the force behind the State of the Sector report – in an unfiltered, no-nonsense conversation on 1 April. We’ll explore: ⚡️ Why internal communication still struggles to be seen as strategic (and what to do about it) ⚡️ Exclusive insights from two global research studies (Gallagher’s deep dive and CSCE’s research with Haiilo) ⚡️ How to finally break the cycle and prove internal communication's business impact 🫵 Stop being ignored. 🫵 Stop being expendable. 🫵 Start being indispensable. I'm running the FeBa course 'How to write for social media: the basics' on Tue, 15 Apr, 1pm - 4pm AEST in partnership with the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence. If you know someone who is just starting out or who would like a refresher on their writing approach this is for them.
Are you still using hashtags on Instagram? Are you using bold text on LinkedIn in the hopes that will make your content interesting? Do you write as people speak, or are you more concerned with grammar? If yes to the above, it might be time to get into a room with Felicity Cull from FeBa and work on those writing chops. Here’s more information: https://lnkd.in/gfA3-C2n
