Research for Rehabilitation and Resilience
About us
The Hopkins Centre Research for Rehabilitation and Resilience A joint initiative of the Menzies Health Institute of Qld, Griffith University and the Division of Rehabilitation, Metro South Health and Hospital Service in partnership with the Motor Accident Insurance Commission, Spinal Life Australia, Synapse, and Health Consumers Queensland. The Hopkins Centre is committed to improving disability and rehabilitation practices, service delivery and systems by developing, translating and implementing interdisciplinary research evidence about real world problems. The Centre focuses on research of relevance to people living with the long-term consequences of acquired brain injury, amputation, persistent pain, and spinal cord injury as well as developmental, age-related and other life-long disabling conditions. The Centre is located at Griffith University, Logan campus and Princess Alexandra Hospital, Metro Health South. It brings together clinicians, policy makers, academics and consumers to facilitate opportunities for research exchange and excellence. The Centre is ideally positioned to lead translation of research into policy and clinical practice through these collaborations. Research is generated at the interface with end-users rather than in isolation. Solutions are immediately relevant to practitioners, policy makers and consumers. By creating an environment for sustainable collaborations and partnerships, we will expand research potential and impact in Queensland and beyond.

🧠 RESEARCH PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITY - CRAFTING BETTER CARE TRANSITIONS AFTER #ABI 🧠 📣 Calling Health Professionals Because much of inpatient acquired brain injury (ABI) #rehabilitation focuses on discharge (i.e. what the person needs to be able to do safely to leave hospital) rather than on #transition (i.e. what the person needs to be able to do when they get home) people can experience unexpected difficulties once they return home. This project progresses a previous #CoDesigned project which developed a concept for a technological #solution to assist with transition from hospital to home. The team need your help to turn the concept into a smart device #application that can be user tested in a clinical setting. https://lnkd.in/gcmJwft8 Can you help? The Dignity Project from Inclusive Futures: Reimagining Disability, Griffith University won the Springer Nature Award for Inclusive Health Research and I was humbled to accept the award in Cape Town South Africa on behalf of our team. Thank you to Takeda, Nature Portfolio, and Stellenbosch University for honouring our work and the work of my fellow winners Monica Malta and Mark Faghy in such spectacular fashion. There are so many people who contribute and support our research that I want to thank - firstly to our team Angel Dixon OAM, Elizabeth Kendall, Carolyn Ehrlich, Kelly Clanchy, Rebekah Barker, Joe-Anne Kek-Pamenter, Maretta Mann PhD and the entire Hopkins Centre staff. Our impact is being realised because of your hard work and dedication. Thank you to Michelle Moss at Queenslanders with Disability Network, Deb Cowan at Metro South Health, and Tamara Ownsworth for your beautiful letters of recommendation in support of the nomination for the award. Thank you of course to the judging panel led by Akin Jimoh for your consideration, time, and recognition of our work. We are honoured to have been deemed worthy of this award by such an illustrious group. This work would not be possible without our 700 citizen scientists with disability including Julia Robertson, Alison McDonald, Nerine Williams and so many others who saw the vision of an idea, and came alongside a young researcher, to support me and welcome me into the disability community. Thank you for your trust, your candour, and sharing your stories. Thank you for believing in the Dignity Project, sharing it with your community, and pushing me and the team to consistently do better.
