According to the Waste Hierarchy, re-use is one of the best ways we can reduce waste. As Kate Fenwick says, if you take part in the "Swappa Crate" system you can feel like a sustainable legend because reuse is even better than recycling! Hospital waste never looked so good! Our soft plastics are being transformed into colourful wall linings and fence posts. Since May 2024, Braemar Hospital has diverted over 1 tonne of soft plastics from landfill through The Packaging Forum. Soft plastics from Braemar Hospital are sent to be manufactured into circular building materials by two innovative Kiwi companies, saveBOARD colourful wall linings and Future Post fence posts. This initiative is part of our wider sustainability strategy to reduce waste to landfill by practising environmentally sustainable healthcare. We keep on making our saveBOARD products and the Woolworths store development team keep on integrating them into their stores. Its such a great way to showcase our value proposition by simply going into their stores to see them: - At saveBOARD we are transforming post-consumer packaging (cartons + soft plastics) into a high-performing building material; which is a high impact product, that can easily be cleaned and hides marks that would normally be visible on a painted surface. - Over the last 18months we've collaborated with Woolworths to create their own custom color (Emerald Green). The finished product is Australian Made using common packaging materials. - Who would have thought that the wall linings around the milk fridges can be made from milk cartons? Go figure... - The final result is an environmentally friendly fit out that is cost-effective, fit for purpose, a low-carbon solution and looks great too! What more could we ask for? If we had a magic wand we want more companies prioritising circular economy products like ours. They are both cartons and brands of Sanitarium Health Food Company! 🌱 Five months ago, we hosted Sanitarium's NZ marketing team at our Te Rapa factory for unique team-building workshop. Their team didn't just observe our process - they rolled up their sleeves and created their own custom boards made from Up&Go's, So Good and Alternative Milk Company cartons... What makes this partnership special is our shared commitment to sustainability. Sanitarium, known for beloved Kiwi and Aussie favorites from cereals to plant-based milks and spreads, is actively contributing to New Zealand's environmental future through the FB Carton Recycling scheme. This initiative now supports 91x drop-off points nationwide, making recycling more accessible to communities across the country.
