As we are 5 sleeps from our next Giving Day, we wanted to share an update on the main project you, the incredible community, funded through last year's fundraising appeal in support of The Prince Charles Hospital.   Hospital staff, families and patients alike were keen to have access to a fabulous new kid's retreat area in the paediatrics ward.   The TPCH community and the Foundation have been working hard with our friends at Unita and Collectivus this year to dream up a refreshed space where kids can be kids, even while they're in hospital. As this area would accommodate patients from infants up to 17 years of age, it was important that an inclusive space was developed for all ages.   We are pleased to report that the preliminary designs are complete. Once these are approved, we will share more information with you.   This year, we need to raise $100,000 to fund the immediate needs of the Children's Emergency Department and Paediatrics Ward. Will you help sick and injured kids today? 👉https://lnkd.in/gExJ_HXq

As we approach our fourth Giving Day (NEXT Wednesday, October 23), we've been reflecting on the significant impact of past Giving Days and the meaningful projects they've helped to achieve. Today, we're shining the light on these artistic additions called Healing Ceilings. These were made possible through support generated by Giving Day in 2022. These Healing Ceilings allow patients' minds to wander into nature in The Prince Charles Hospital's thoracic ward. Read more about this colourful addition that brightens the days of staff and patients in this blog: https://lnkd.in/gw-h_Hgd This year, we need to raise $150,000 to fund some more of the immediate needs of the Children's Emergency Department and Paediatrics Ward. Donate today to help us reach our goal and help sick and injured kids https://lnkd.in/gExJ_HXq Metro North Health

📢It's Allied Health Professions Day! While we acknowledge and celebrate the work of ALL caring and compassionate allied health professionals at The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital, today we'd like to highlight the Child Life Therapy (CLT) service. As part of our upcoming Giving Day next week, funds raised will help to expand the invaluable CLT service, which helps to minimise the fear and anxiety experienced by some of The Prince Charles Hospital's littlest patients and improve their coping. This role currently helps about 2,000 patients and their families each year, along with countless staff members from the Children's Emergency Department and Paediatric Ward. We hope that this Giving Day, with the support of our generous community, we can raise enough funds so that more children can experience this invaluable service and more staff can benefit from the program's positive flow-on effects. Memory Lane is an impactful addition helping patients at The Prince Charles Hospital. Yet this meaningful upgrade was only possible because several parties came together for the common good, including the generous people within our community who supported this project through one of our past Giving Days, compassionate hospital staff from Internal Medicine Services, and the team at The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.    Our next Giving Day is right around the corner (Wednesday, October 23!). Your generous gifts this year will be directed to The Prince Charles Hospital’s Children’s Emergency Department and Paediatric Ward. To donate to this year’s Giving Day and help us help sick and injured kids who visit the hospital in their time of need, click here 👉https://lnkd.in/gNvcsMxw To learn more about Memory Lane, click here 👉https://lnkd.in/gMP9wUvS

Take a walk down Memory Lane on the way to the GEM ward at TPCH, where the walls are filled with nostalgic photos of Brisbane and surrounds in the 1950s-80s. Carefully curated by Nurse Unit Manager Christine and The Common Good, these images were chosen with a special purpose in mind. 🖼 "We wanted to pick photos that resonated with our older patients," Christine shares. "We often see these pictures evoke powerful memories, especially for patients with dementia. A single photo can spark a story from their childhood or time as parents, bringing smiles and conversation." "Memory Lane is a beautiful way to connect our patients with their past, giving them moments of joy and reflection." 💖 [Accessibility image description: Nurses Jess and Sarah smile holding the hands of GEM patient Grace.]

Do you remember Aaron (Perth), Rob (Sydney) and Perry (Brisbane)? Over the past 18 months, we have been honoured to share some of their stories. All three are bound by their love of cycling. They also have another thing in common - they are all transplant recipients and advocates for the power of medical research. The trio joined other transplant recipients from around the country to take part in the Australian Transplant Games in Canberra last week. Their participation not only brought them personal victories but also inspired the entire community. Almost two years post heart transplant, Rob's wife Amanda described it as "the most brilliant, emotional and cup-filling week of wins, chats, competition and comradeship." Every story that came from participants in the Transplant Games may have had different endings had it not been without advancements in medical research - advancements that are only made possible when people come together for the common good. Aaron, Rob and Perry - we are so proud of you all. Thank you for showing why medical research is so important and thank you for inspiring so many with what life after transplant can be like.

Did you know that The Prince Charles Hospital’s Children’s Emergency Department is one of the busiest children's emergency departments in Queensland? Each year, thousands of children rely on the care of the compassionate hospital staff. And as the local population grows, so does the number of young patients who need their help. This increasing demand for hospital services means a rising demand for additional equipment and patient care programs. But these are things that need the support of kind community members like you to become a reality. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a real difference. This Giving Day, can you help us help the littlest patients who visit this hospital? Please make a difference and donate today at our website.
