TQSolutions #skills research has just published its 5th newsletter, this month on the topic of Skills, Proficiency Ratings and Ai Inference Models. The main focus of the newsletter is whether there is a place for Ai inference models as part of a #skillsbased strategy and program. The newsletter unpacks TQSolutions insights and findings from our consulting work and research, whilst sharing some of the thoughts and opinions from industry notables including Sandra Loughlin, PhD from EPAM Systems, David Meza from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Michael Smith from Randstad Enterprise, Maryna Matthew (ex Novartis), Gordon Ritchie from Skill Collective and Dr. Marcus Bowles from Capability.Co. Personally, I think Ai has its place in the ecosystem and can actually enhance user experience and fast-track 'time to value', however, there is a distinct role for humans to play in the enhancement and validation of skills data. The hybrid approach to skills mapping wins out in my opinion but I see the value of a more rigorous approach to skill proficiency ratings, with a greater degree of human overlay. However, a skills transformation is BIG, and some companies just need to start at first base, or with a MVP. If this means leveraging inferred skills data to begin, then so be it, it's better and probably more reliable information than most companies have on their workforce today. Skills may also be where you start, and proficiency ratings may come later. Afterall, there is enormous merit in pursuing progress over perfection.
