An amazing turnout and great to see such enthusiasm for small molecule drug discovery! We look forward to a bold new era with the Queensland Drug Discovery Alliance. Thanks to all for your fabulous support. 💊⚕️🧪🔬💉
Exciting times ahead for #DrugDevelopment in #Queensland and #Australia, with the Queensland Drug Discovery Alliance (QDDA) officially launching today. #QDDA brings together: 💊 Compounds Australia (Griffith University Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics) 💊 Queensland Emory Drug Discovery Initiative (#QEDDI, UniQuest) 💊 Centre for Integrated Preclinical Drug Development (CIPDD, The University of Queensland) The new alliance aims to the aim align and grow Queensland’s small molecule therapeutic discovery capability under the leadership of Therapeutic Innovation Australia (TIA). The alliance is supported by the Commonwealth Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (#NCRIS) and the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI) through the Research Infrastructure Co-Investment Fund (RICF). TIA CEO Dr Stuart Newman joined TIA Director Ross McKinnon, and LSQ Chair Professor Trent Munro in celebrating the partnership, which will further strengthen Queensland’s drug development pipeline. QDDA aims to bridge the gap from basic discovery to clinical development, commercialisation, and market entry, accelerating drug discovery and enabling more effective translation of Queensland’s #biomedical research. LSQ is proud to be supporting the ecosystem and helping make connections to support progress in the sector. As Professor Munro acknowledged, "Progress takes great ideas and turns them into the products and drugs of tomorrow." Today’s launch did double duty as the first in a series of roadshows aimed at helping each partner showcase their facilities to potential users, with presentations from Professor Sally-Ann Poulsen (Compounds Australia Director), Dr Brian Dymock (Head of QEDDI) and Emeritus Professor Maree Smith AC (CIPDD Director). A panel discussion between Andrew Bowskill (MTPConnect), Dr Sabrina Sofia Burgener (UQ Institute for Molecular Bioscience) and Associate Professor Richard Clark The University of Queensland talked about the potential and possibilities of increased collaboration and cooperation.

The team have built the first-ever drug to treat heart damage during a heart attack and protect donor hearts during transplant procurement. 💗💗💗 And to think it all began with a peptide in the venom of the K’gari funnel web spider… 🕷️🕷️🕷️🧪🔬💉 Congratulations all! #researchcommercialisation #research #heartattack #hearttransplant #techtransfer

Fantastic to see Gold Coast-based Watergum Community Inc getting the jump on pesky cane toads using the pheromone lures developed by Rob Capon at UQ Institute for Molecular Bioscience. We helped license the toad-busting #tech from The University of Queensland to the local not-for-profit in 2021. Check out the yarn by the team from Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)'s Gardening Australia below! Jerry Coleby-Williams 🐸🐸🐸
