Maroondah City Council’s waste collection programme continues to be a stellar example of making recycling accessible to everyone. 🙌 Maroondah residents dropped off their old clothes to give them a new life. Regardless of if it’s a brand-new pair of jeans or your well-worn work boots, UPPAREL makes the most of all the items that come through our door. 💚 Our team meticulously sorts through thousands of items every day, with fit-for-wear garments distributed to our charity partners across Australia. The remaining items are transformed into one of our many circular materials like UPtex, our recycled rigid board. ♻️ If you’re looking to make it easier for your community to make the most of their used garments, follow in the footsteps of Maroondah City Council and reach out to us here - https://lnkd.in/gQfxqhtW

UPPAREL is the leader in textile recovery and repurpose.
About us
UPPAREL (formerly known as MANRAGS) is Australasia's leader in textile recovery and recycling. We are at the forefront of the circular fashion economy, revolutionising the reuse, repurpose and recycling of textiles. UPPAREL stands for positive impact, progressive change and is aiming to make the textile industry a leader in sustainability. We have been able to prove that sustainability truly equals success and have shown to the textile industry that there is now a solution. Here at UPPAREL, we sort through thousands of products every single day to reuse & UPcycle where possible. The aim is simple: extend product life and redirect textiles from landfill. To date, UPPAREL has saved over 6 MILLION items from landfill and prevented over 3.5 Million kilograms of greenhouse gases from polluting the air we breathe. Currently, the majority of the fashion industry is built on a linear system encouraging over-consumption and putting a huge strain on our planet. In order to challenge this, we need to innovate and cultivate a generation of pioneers to want to affect change, and that’s where the UPPAREL circular fashion model comes in. Let's move mountains, not make them. The time is now to be a part of changing the fashion industry and creating a better world for future generations. Step-UP and make a positive change - with UPPAREL!

Are you ready to take responsibility for textile waste in your community? Then get ready for National Recycling Week, November 11th to 17th!♻️ Australia is the number one consumer of textiles globally – that makes it even more important that we do our part to reduce waste. Encourage community members to skip the landfill and give their old clothes a new life – from donating that near-mint jacket to recycling those well-worn jeans, UPPAREL makes the most of all the items we collect across Australia. 🇦🇺 Our team sorts through thousands of items every day, with ready-to-wear items going straight to our 450+ charity partners across Australia. For the garments that have reached the end of their usable life, we turn them into a range of circular materials – from filler fluff for couches to acoustic panelling for offices. Nothing that comes through our door ends up in the landfill and is all processed onshore in Australia. 🌏 If you’re looking to make it easier for your community to make the most of their used garments, we can help you set up collections to make textile recycling more accessible to everyone! 💚 Reach out to us here - https://lnkd.in/gQfxqhtW #upparel #textilewaste #upcycling #australia #recycling #communityevents #circulareconomy

A massive thanks to the Optus volunteers who came and helped out at our Melbourne facility last week! Optus is no stranger to reducing waste – they've been recycling old mobile devices and accessories since 1998. However, textiles aren’t their area of expertise – that's where UPPAREL comes in! The Optus team got to work sorting through hundreds of items, picking out which garments were fit-to-wear and which were ready to be transformed into our range of fully circular materials! Everything that’s fit-to-wear is distributed to our partner charities across Australia, making sure that they don’t end up going to waste in landfills. Thank you to the entire Optus team for making an impact on reducing textile waste with us, we truly appreciate your dedication to making a difference! If your organisation is looking to get involved, we’d love to have you join us for a volunteer day! We’re thrilled to be partnering with Kmart Australia on their journey toward sustainability! 🌱 Together, we're making a significant impact by keeping thousands of old uniforms out of landfill by recycling onshore. Through this partnership, Kmart team members across Australian Stores and Distribution Centres can now recycle their uniforms and clothing at work. ♻️ At UPPAREL, we're proud to support Kmart in taking this important step toward a more sustainable future by taking responsibility for Australia’s textile waste at home 🙌
In 2023, we ordered nearly 300,000 uniform units – and we’re committed to ensuring these don’t go to waste. That’s why we’re pleased to have partnered with UPPAREL to keep thousands of these old uniform items out of landfill. ♻️🙌🚮 This new partnership offers a practical solution, allowing our team members in Australian Stores and Distribution Centres to recycle old uniforms and clothing at work from this week – sustainability is an ongoing journey for us, and this is just one small step on that journey.

A big shoutout to the Paddy Pallin team for their incredible volunteer efforts last week! 🌟🌍 We had the pleasure of hosting two groups from Paddy Palin, who joined us twice to make a difference. Known for their commitment to sustainable outdoor living, Paddy Palin specializes in providing high-quality outdoor gear and clothing, helping adventurers explore nature while minimizing their environmental footprint. 🏞️🎒 The team dove into sorting and decommissioning tasks at our UPPAREL facility, helping us divert textiles from landfills. Over just two sessions, they helped us prepare hundreds of kilograms of textiles for reuse and recycling—giving these items a new life and keeping them out of landfills. ♻️👕✨ Tim Wood, Partnerships and Activities Coordinator VIC at Paddy Palin, shared his thoughts on the experience: *“Volunteering at Upparel was an eye-opening experience, revealing the huge scale of fast fashion waste and the crucial role of recycling unusable garments onshore and distributing the usable garments to the correct places. The engaging, positive environment at Upparel made it more than just a feel-good exercise; it felt like a meaningful step forward for the planet. They provide you with everything you require and can answer any questions you might have. For anyone considering corporate volunteering, Upparel is the place to make a real, tangible difference.”* A huge thank you to Tim and the entire Paddy Palin team for making an impact with us.
