Great to have Minister for Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes at the SES Fawkner Unit last night to check out our new Heavy Rescue Truck prototype. Features of the new truck include: advanced ergonomic design, custom locker stowage, a chainsaw work bench and wind speed detention capability to prioritise safety. The prototype truck is currently on a member roadshow enabling our volunteer responders to view the new features and ask any questions of the development team. The truck will soon go through comprehensive durability testing prior to production - expected to start in 2025.

About us
Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based organisation, providing emergency assistance to minimise the impact of emergencies and strengthen the community’s capacity to plan, respond and recover, when emergencies occur. We are the control agency for flood, storm, tsunami, earthquake and landslide throughout Victoria, and provide the largest road rescue network in Australia, with specialist teams in 102 of our 149 units across the state. We also assist the Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, and play an important support role during major bushfire responses. In addition to providing support on the ground, VICSES assists municipal councils and their communities with emergency management plans, providing advice, information, education and training. Our organisation is made up of approximately 200 full-time professional staff and 5,000 dedicated volunteers from all ages and backgrounds, with a shared desire to work as part of a team that gives back to the community they live in. Our Victorian Head Office is located on Sturt Street, Southbank, supported by regional headquarters and offices throughout Victoria. Discover the benefits of a public service career with VICSES, and join a team that is diverse, talented and highly skilled. It’s the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction, and this year’s theme is empowering the next generation for a resilient future. We all play a role in reducing the risk that come with natural disasters like storm, flood, and earthquake. The earlier we learn strategies to keep ourselves and our community safe, the better! Our website is full of educational activities and resources for students. You can even book a school visit from VICSES! For more info visit: https://lnkd.in/gaUQtXyV

Today, volunteers and staff joined together for the R U OK? Conversation Convoy event hosted at our SES Heidelberg Unit. Over lunch we chatted about the importance of observing signs that someone might not be ok, checking in with each other when we're seeing these signs, and using our active listening skills to have a supportive conversation about what our colleague, friend or loved one is experiencing. It was great to be out in the beautiful sunshine with our colleagues to reflect on the role we all play in supporting each other's mental health and wellbeing, every day.
