We wish happy festivities to all Victorians who celebrate Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. This vibrant celebration of the triumph of good over evil is widely observed across cultures and in the diverse traditions of Sikh, Jain and Newar Buddhist communities. Also known as Deepavali, Diwali marks the start of a new year and is a time to give thanks and pray for good health and prosperity. We wish all Victorians who celebrate Diwali a peaceful and joyful festival with family, friends and community. #Diwali #Deepavali #FestivalofLights #ShubhDiwali #Hindu #Sikh #Jain #NewarBuddhist

Today is International Equal Pay Day, a reminder that all employees are entitled to be paid the same for performing work of equal or comparable value. In Australia, this has been a legal requirement since 1969. Small and medium enterprises face some distinct barriers in achieving equal pay, so we’ve worked with business owners, industry stakeholders and Industrial Relations Victoria to develop the Equal Pay Toolkit – a suite of 8 easy-to-use digital tools to help small and medium businesses get on the path to pay equality. The toolkit responds to the unique issues facing small businesses and includes: — a Pay Equality Compass to help organisations assess their strengths and opportunities to achieve pay equality — a simple guide and calculator for conducting equal pay audits — customisable templates for developing an equal pay policy, assessing capability and creating an action plan — a sample complaints procedure for equal pay matters — a guide for conducting gender-neutral job evaluations — a tool for ensuring equitable access to professional development. In preparation for International Equal Pay Day on 18 September, yesterday we launched the Pay Equality Toolkit in partnership with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – a suite of easy-to-use digital tools to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) achieve pay equality. Mr Paul Edbrooke, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and State Member for Frankston, formally launched the toolkit, alongside Commissioner Ro Allen (FAICD). Chanelle Pearson GAICD was our emcee for the event, Uncle Tony Garvey from the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation provided a compelling Welcome to Country, and project lead Anita L'Enfant stepped through the toolkit and how it can help SMEs become an employer of choice. Developed with support from Industrial Relations Victoria, the Pay Equality Toolkit equips SMEs with practical tools that respond to their needs. Attendees at the launch had an opportunity to test out the eight tools in the toolkit, including: — a Pay Equality Compass to help organisations assess their strengths and opportunities to achieve pay equality — a simple guide and calculator for conducting equal pay audits — customisable templates for developing an equal pay policy, assessing capability and creating an action plan — a sample complaints procedure for equal pay matters — a guide for conducting gender-neutral job evaluations — a tool for ensuring equitable access to professional development.
