Having recently welcomed Mike Saunders to the Voyager Team in the role of Head of Viticulture, we caught up with him to chat about what drew him to Margaret River, what fascinates him about winegrowing, and for his take on organic viticulture. Mike says on organics: “It's about doing a million little things at exactly the right time. As we don’t have the silver bullets with organics, we’ve got to be so much more observant. We’ve also got to be so much more proactive and in tune with the environment that the vines are in. But if we’re doing our job right, nailing the balance within the ecosystem, then everything else kind of just flows on from there.” To read the full article, head over to Voyager Journal: https://lnkd.in/gGUG8ET9.

We're proud to share that Voyager Estate has successfully completed Ecotourism Australia's Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard, achieving a total of 90%. Ecotourism Australia, a non-profit established in 1991, pioneered the world's first national ecotourism certification through its ECO Certification program. The Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard helps businesses assess their sustainability journey by tracking progress across 50 criteria within four pillars: sustainable management, environmental impact, socio-economic impact, and cultural impact. Completing this scorecard is a significant benchmark for us. It highlights our strengths and opportunities for growth, particularly within the guest experience areas of our business, and we’re eager to engage our team in further advancing our sustainability efforts in the coming months.

The 2024 vintage saw the return of a much-loved staff training initiative, our Team Winemaking Project. Over the last year, the Cellar Door team have meticulously nurtured heritage Grenache vines, originally planted in 1978, through every stage of winemaking. With assistance from Chief Winemaker, Tim Shand, the team gained hands-on experience from pruning to bottling, culminating in a special magnum of Grenache to take home. This initiative not only enriched their practical skills and knowledge, but also fostered a deep appreciation for the winemaking process, with plenty of laughs along the way. A special thanks to Tim and our Vineyard and Winery teams for their invaluable support in guiding vine to wine! #Winemaking #Teamwork #Viticulture #Grenache #HeritageVines #ProfessionalDevelopment

Guests journeyed into the world of some of the greatest music for keyboard instruments and string quartet, over three incredible days, in the heart of Djab Wurrung land in the Southern Grampians. Along with an incredible food offering, guests enjoyed a curated selection of Voyager Estate wines, as they soaked up intimate performances from Australia's finest classical artists, including Baroque specialist Erin Helyard. Thrilled to see Voyager Estate featured amongst some of the country’s best in Young Gun of Wine's 2nd Deep Dive into Chenin Blanc, with three of the seven expert panellists naming our 2023 Chenin Blanc as their top wine of the day. Just a few of the glowing comments from the panel: “Pretty white flowers, some riper yellow stone fruit, peach skin, acacia… Easy to like. A wine to drink outside” – Chris Ryan, Trader House Group. “Candied pink grapefruit, dried sage, honeysuckle. Good balance… Bring me some salt ‘n’ pepper squid!” – Jeremy Prideaux, Principal Wine. “The palate is generous without being heavy or rich. Juicy pineapple floods the palate, with a finish that gives and gives” – Isabelle Szyman, Rathdowne Cellars. Read more via https://lnkd.in/gZ8MsiFR.

“It seems fitting that one of Margaret River’s most prestigious wineries is home to arguably the South West's most beautiful cellar door, not to mention a seriously stunning degustation. But what might surprise you is how down-to-earth and approachable the wine experiences are at Voyager Estate. There are a bunch of ways to play, each without a single whiff of that familiar wine snobbery.” Lovely words from Claire Logan of Urban List Perth – read the full feature on our experiences via https://lnkd.in/gafBjtYx.
