Last week our Alkimos Desalination Pipeline team received the first delivery of our special WA-made pipes. 🙌 The extra-large steel water pipes have been produced in Western Australia for the first time, supporting local jobs and manufacturing, and eliminating supply chain risks, freight costs, and transportation emissions. Each 12 metre-long section of the 1,600 mm diameter pipe weighs around nine tonnes and has an expected lifespan of around 120 years. The pipes will convey water from the future Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant (ASDP) to Wanneroo and into the network. Once complete in 2028, the first stage of ASDP will have capacity to provide up to 50 billion litres of safe, secure drinking water to millions of Western Australians each year. 💧 Learn more >> https://bit.ly/3QJR4y1

Together, we’re making frog-ress! 🐸 It's World Frog Day, and we want to share this un-frog-ettable greening project led by the Town of Bassendean. In 2021 the Bassendean community hopped into action with a community-designed project to transform a local stormwater basin into a micro wetland with a goal to provide a better pad for our native frogs. Four years on the restoration is a ribbit-ing success, reducing water use and creating a greener, cooler park. We value the unique perspective and experience that people from different backgrounds bring. It strengthens our workforce, fosters greater innovation, makes our community strong, and helps us best serve our customers. 🙌 This week we've been celebrating our diverse cultural backgrounds to recognise inclusiveness, respect, and belonging for everyone. 🧡 Tomorrow is also International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD). Although Harmony Week is a celebration of cultures and diversity, it’s also important for us to recognise IDERD, and take action to create real change. We're committed to providing a safe and inclusive workplace for all and ensuring our culturally and linguistically diverse colleagues feel welcome and supported.

Last week we removed 30-tonnes of non-flushable items from our Water Resource Recovery Facility at Woodman Point. 🤢 It's the largest fatberg we've ever experienced in WA, and took our team two days to clear. Fatbergs are made up of non-flushable items like wet wipes which combine with fats and oils to block plumbing and sewers, and lead to wastewater overflows and public health risks. 💩 This work was part of our ongoing preventative maintenance program across more than 100 wastewater treatment facilities, hundreds of sewer pump stations and around 18,000 km of wastewater mains throughout the state. Remember, only flush the 3Ps - toilet paper, pee, and poo, and keep fats, oil, and grease out of the sink. https://bit.ly/3DQnF2P 7NEWS Australia

It's a special day for the Irish community including our CEO Pat Donovan, who first moved to Perth from Ireland over 20 years ago. ☘️ Pat is a mechanical engineer by trade who has spent most of his career in operations. He worked in the gas utility industry in Australia and Ireland before joining Water Corporation. "I often characterise my work style as "have fun, but get it done!" I value hard work, loyalty and commitment, because that's what I bring to the table too." "I thrive on high energy and innovative ideas, and combined with my Irish roots, I really enjoy celebrating our successes! My role is really fulfilling at Water Corporation. As the purpose-driven organisation that we are, we have the opportunity to truly make a difference by enabling our people, community and state to thrive." Happy St Patrick's Day to all our Irish friends. 🇮🇪 Sláinte!

In 2024, the Society for Kimberley Indigenous Plants and Animals was one of the recipients of our Kimberley Community Grants Scheme. 🌿✨ Thanks to this support, they were able to move from working in members' backyards to a new central spot. Now, they can gather, connect and carry on with their important work. This new chapter promises more opportunities for sharing knowledge, forging friendships, and building a stronger, more connected community in Broome. 🙌

We're working hard to make sure everyone feels welcomed and respected at work, no matter who they are. Occasions like International Women's Day are great opportunities to share, celebrate, and reflect on the great work being done. 👇 ⚖️ Our Gender Balance for Better working group, is helping foster more gender equity through advocacy and impactful projects. 🧑💼 Leadership development programs, including LEDA, Women Rising, and the Women in Leadership Summit are ensuring we’re investing in diversity at all levels. 💻 The Women in Tech and Allies program fosters a supportive environment for women in tech roles and promotes inclusivity in the traditionally male dominated field. 🖊️ We offer comprehensive training programs on gender equity for employees and leaders. 👥 We’re active members of organisations such as CEOs for Gender Equity, helping to champion progress towards workplace equality. 🏥 We offer a range of health and well-being programs including education about periods and menopause and presentations on healthy masculinity. Our organisation wouldn't be the same without the amazing women who support it. While we've made great progress, there's always room for improvement and we'll keep working hard to make Water Corporation a place for everyone.
