A big thank you to the members of our Community Council who met with us in Ballarat this morning to provide feedback on our draft Lived Experience Framework. It was a great session, and we received a lot of valuable feedback that we will now incorporate into the Framework.

About us
Western Victoria Primary Health Network (PHN) was established on 1 July 2015 and is responsible for increasing the efficiency, effectiveness and coordination of health services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes. The Western Victoria PHN services a population of 576,790 and has regional centres in Horsham, Ballarat, Geelong and Warrnambool. Our strategic priorities include; REGIONAL HEALTH PLANNING • Undertake regional needs assessment to understand the primary health system priorities for rural and regional communities. • Engage with general practice, Aboriginal health services, private allied health, community organisations and hospitals to maximise knowledge of workforce, service gaps and system issues. • Engage with communities to ensure local perspectives are incorporated into program design, delivery and evaluation. COMMISSIONING • Use regional needs assessment priorities to inform the development of responsive and innovative workforce and service models. • Implement transparent and robust contract and procurement processes. • Adopt evidence based best practice approaches. • Monitor and evaluate services and models. GP AND PRIMARY CARE DEVELOPMENT • Leverage the expertise of general practice to inform primary care development. • Collaborate with general practice in implementing quality improvement activities. • Collate and analyse data to inform service system improvement. • Create opportunities for the primary care system to partner with general practice to improve health outcomes and reduce preventable hospital presentations. HEALTH SYSTEM INTEGRATION • Utilise cross sector collaboration and coordination. • Implement digital health solutions to improve continuity of care and clinical decision making. • Enhance capability and capacity of general practice through the co-design of clinical pathways. • Partner with communities and health professionals

What's the culture like in your workplace? We heard GPs Dr Bernard Shiu from Banksia Medical Centre, Dr Ern Chang from Family Doctors Highton and Practice Manager Emma K Johns from Springs Medical discuss how to create a positive culture in general practice.

This morning WVPHN’s CEO, Craig Wilding, gave the opening address on day two of the 2024 Primary Care Conference, and then we had a great keynote speech from demographics expert, Simon Kuestenmacher, who spoke about primary care through the demographic lens. It was particularly interesting to hear how the current skills shortage will remain and even worsen in the coming decade, and what health practitioners might do to counter these trends.

Just a reminder this World Mental Health Day that health professionals can find information about all WVPHN-commissioned mental health and alchohol and other drugs support services for western Victoria here: https://lnkd.in/gtDw6dRz
Today is World Mental Health Day. Each year on October 10 we all have the chance to put mental health in the spotlight to raise awareness and break down stigma. This year we have focussed on the meaningful connections in our lives, and why they are so important for good mental health. Mental health is an issue that touches each and every one of us in different ways, and World Mental Health Day reminds us that we should be connecting with loved ones, connecting with our community and colleagues, connecting with services and supports if needed - and most importantly - connecting back with ourselves for good mental health. #WMHD24 #MeaningfulConnectionsMatter
