Myself and a few ropable legends will be embarking on a 130-kilometer run along the Cape to Cape trail at the end of August. Our primary goal is to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer Australia, a cause close to my heart.
We have humorously dubbed this challenge 'No Bowel Out' (Dad life puns). However, rather than approaching this as a typical ego-driven feat of no sleep and 130km straight, we have decided to split the run into three days. This will allow us to truly appreciate the journey and engage in meaningful conversations about life and family along the way, and we are a little unfit haha.
Personally, I am currently in the final stages of recovery from a six-month stretch of chemotherapy, after an unexpected cancer diagnosis last December following a colonoscopy. The journey has not been easy, not just for me, but also for those around me. Normally, I prefer to keep my personal life 100% private and tend to roll my eyes at those who overshare 😅. However, if I can raise awareness for this type of cancer for any younger legends out there and generate funds for the cause, then I am more than willing to put myself out there.
Still completely unsure if my personal battle is over, being in the Charlie Gardner cancer ward on a regular basis really puts into perspective how many people are going through their own shit and pushing on. My personal battle is a minor blip compared to what some children and other people in there are going through.
Our collective goal is to raise $10,000 for Bowel Cancer Australia. We will be commencing our run at sunrise on August 29th, starting at Cape Naturaliste in Dunsborough. The route will be divided as follows:
Day 1: Dunsborough to Gracetown
Day 2: Gracetown to Hamelin Bay
Day 3: Hamelin Bay to Cape Leeuwin
Each day, we will set off at sunrise, ready to push on. If you are seeking a true test of strength and determination, feel free to join us. If not for all, even one of the legs for a chat if the high heart rate allows it 😅.
Looking forward to keeping you in the loop for the journey and hoping you can donate to the cause or share your own stories 🙏🏼👏.
Zero sympathy for myself wanted, just the need to spread the word. Get yourself checked, get the colonoscopy booked, life is too bloody short!
