  • 10 days left ?? To Arca summit? No that is still in November, don't stress and thanks so much for all the people who have pinged me to tell me they are coming now. So excited to hear we will have so many WiCRC members there. So what is in 10 days? That is how long you have left to nominate. No more excuses. Nominate at least 3 cool chicks today !! They don't have to know anything about WiCRC yet or even want to be our friends (but seriously who doesn't) Ping me - love to catch up

  • Did WE mention one of those awards is the WiCRC award ? Not sure if you are a WiCRC member or she is a member - don’t stress. It is free and easy to join and Arca has the option to say “I don’t know if she is a member”. It is not mandatory that she has even heard of us yet. Just get out there and vote. You can nominate more than once !! Arca supporting industry and the women in it 💕

  • I am hoping many of you are as excited as we are about the Arca awards. Hopefully, you have already nominated, but you can always nominate more! If you have not nominated someone yet - do it now. It is not fancy or hard. You need to know her name, company and write a small paragraph on why she rocks. No excuses. Heck, nominate yourself. No one can even see who nominated, so go all out and brag yourself up. All joking aside, I am tired of hearing how there are not enough strong women out there. It is the excuse I get when I ask why the team is still all men - no women applied. Or the panel of speakers at the conference is all male - they don't want to put themselves out there. Don't get me wrong - I love my guys, but there are some wicked chicks out there quietly just getting it done. Guys, you know them. If you want to be a true ally, then call them out. I refuse to believe that if you just thought about it for 1 minute - heaps of names would come to mind. Nominate them. And tell them you nominated them because it feels great when someone believes in you. Tell me and I will cheer for them. This is not just for our female CRO (and yes there are quite a few now) or our wonderful HO collections leaders (again 4 out of top 5 banks). This is for the everyday shining star. Our quiet achiever. Our loud ones. Diversity is critical and tired of all these shiny stars hiding in the shadows. If they can not see their own spark - share it to everyone else for them.

  • Most of us can relate to this. Remember just as she paved the way for others so does everyone of you. Regardless if you know if know it or not. Live the world or even the room better. 💕

I’m just going to leave this one right here. Aside from her outstanding acting capabilities, Maggie Smith will always be fondly remembered by me for this one quote. I’m a woman ‘of a certain age’ who has worked in challenging, male dominated sectors my entire career, and had to ‘find and use my voice’ when womens’ contributions were not particularly valued. When I started out, there was no International Womens’ Day, no structured support to empower young women in their careers….and you reckon the gender pay gap is bad now???? I was lucky. I had some fantastic male bosses who saw my leadership potential and nurtured it. The irony of needing male sponsors is not lost on me but that’s how it was, and to an extent how it still is in certain roles. I now work to ‘pay it forward’…nurturing fantastic talent and ‘voices’ wherever I find them. But this quote…I live by it. I had to learn to be courageous in environments where it is challenging….back myself and my experience and capabilities…and say what I believe and know to be true. Even when my voice was shaking:) Everyone has something to say and should be heard…even when their voices shake.

  • Are these not the most beautiful awards? Well, until today, I would have said yes—then I saw the Arca Summit Award 2024 for WiCRC – Women’s Leadership, and they are even better! This is an opportunity too good to miss, so please nominate yourself or every incredible woman you know in this industry. Let’s recognise and celebrate the amazing talent around us. Nominate here: https://lnkd.in/gDhQ7WPW   Also, nominees don’t need to attend the Arca conference in November to win, but if you can, join us there—it’s going to be an event not to miss! Heck maybe if they are nominated that is a good enough excuse to have to go.

  • "Be a Friend/Make a Friend" #WiCRC was thrilled to attend #COBA24 as we kicked off our conference initiative! Did you know that 70% of women surveyed said they wouldn't attend a conference unless they knew someone going? That means many women are missing out on key opportunities to learn, grow, and connect. We get it. #COBA24 had a fantastic gender balance, and even though we knew friends would be there, walking into a space with over 1000 people can still be overwhelming. But that’s why it’s so important to be intentional about building relationships. Actively working at connections, meeting new people, and learning from each other is the foundation of growth—both personally and professionally. We're getting ready for the Arca Summit next (Nov), and we want everyone to come, engage, and connect. Let’s ensure no one feels alone in the room. Make that effort—be a friend, make a friend, and build lasting connections. See you there - come find us!

What a fun 2 days at the #COBA24 convention! Such a well run event and great to run into friends, old and new, including getting the chance to talk to Catherine Fitzpatrick about the work she’s doing on #safetybydesign space! Excited to see the lessons learned from banking be followed in the energy and water space! Such a massive piece of work that’s going to no doubt lead to reduce the weaponisation of energy and water products, like the complexities of joint accounts! A research informed approach to gender equal leadership.

There are more Marks then women in NZX listed companies and I'm not surprised. Most of the initiatives to solve this are still focused on doing the same things we've done for decades and expecting different results. And there is simply not enough critical dialogue about what we do differently. Both within organisations, and across people looking to address this. Maybe I've spent too long in the academic space - where it's pretty normal to challenge ideas, ask for more proof, and push past what we currently understand - but I'm increasingly frustrated. I ask questions, give different perspectives, challenge the way we're problem solving this. I get ignored. I see people tense up, shut down. There's patch protection and ego, but no dialogue. According to the latest McKinsey & Company Women in the Workplace report, at the current rate of progress, it will take 48 years for the representation of white women and women of color in senior leadership to reflect their share of the US population. I can't imagine it's going to be much different in NZ. Unless we start having harder conversations. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re interested in having those harder conversations with the research and practical tools to do it, then sign up for the gender equity masterclass that Lisa Mulligan and I are running in October. More info here ===>>> https://lnkd.in/ds3Maiwr And I find it really ironic that RNZ asked for a male expert's opinion on this because there are plenty of female academics who could have provided great perspective. https://lnkd.in/gy4iUnTb

  • So excited!! We have been waiting to be able to announce the joint Arca and #WiCRC award. How unbelievably cool that a female is going to be celebrated in November. Question: do I have to be a WiCRC member in order to be nominated? Technically no because we are launching our membership registration process this week so stay tuned. But obviously we want all our WiCRC friends to register as an official member so we can share all our news. Please register your membership as soon it becomes available. Question: How do I nominate someone? Arca is sending out a survey to its members so watch out for it and please nominate someone. There are so many great women. It is critical we get their names out there. Question: I did not need the survey or link to nominate - how do we nominate someone? Ping me. I will help you connect. Or follow the link on this post. It is easy. No excuses. Seriously. Get out there and tell a heap of cool women how much you appreciate them. Thank you so much Arca.

I love the commitment to being a “creature of discomfort” so much! Adam’s research completely aligns with everything I’ve learned about our capacity for vulnerability being a powerful measure of courage. There are some days when I don’t want to do a single thing that I’m not already good (or at least experienced) at doing. But these are not my best days. My best days are when I knowingly show up to do something new — something that I know will make me feel awkward and momentarily regretful. There’s a special feeling that fortifies us when we know we’re going to be terrible at something and we still show up and try. I tried a tricky move on the pickleball court the other day — one that is completely outside of my tennis experience. I fell into the net and landed on the ground. While my initial thought was, “I’ll never try that again” — I tried it again the next day and fell again. My “creature of discomfort” thought: “Well, I probably need to fall ten times before I get it. Two down, eight to go.” Be awkward. Like no one is watching. https://lnkd.in/gcsUCTeA

    • “Becoming a creature of discomfort can unlock hidden potential in many different types of learning. Summoning the nerve to face discomfort is a character skill—an especially important form of determination. It takes three kinds of courage: to abandon your tried-and-true methods, to put yourself in the ring before you feel ready, and to make more mistakes than others make attempts. The best way to accelerate growth is to embrace, seek, and amplify discomfort.” — a quote by Adam Grant from his book, “Hidden Potential: The Science of Achieving Greater Things”
