  • Woods Bagot’s Sustainability Lead for Australia & New Zealand, Julieta Loya, has been invited to speak as part of this year’s TRANSFORM Conference. Hosted by the Green Building Council of Australia, TRANSFORM is an industry-leading event featuring experts and decision-makers within sustainability and the built environment. “Circularity looks into the cycle of the materials and products in our projects in a systemic way, considering sourcing, use, and end of life. Helping the industry move away from the concept of 'waste' into better valuing resources,” says Loya. “Smart specifying is an opportunity to engage in circularity, being a fundamental part of every project and one determining factor of the final quality, looks, and sustainability outcome.” Loya will be speaking on the Circular Materials, Smart Procurement and Reclamation Panel, alongside Dave Moolman, Shaw Contract Australia and David Palin, Mirvac. • Scaffolding has now been removed from the exterior of Gore Street, a Piccolo house, revealing the exquisite architectural details that have been carefully crafted behind the scenes. Designed by Woods Bagot, Gore Street marks the third collaboration with the design-led developer, with practical completion anticipated mid-2025. Designed by Woods Bagot, Gore Street marks the third collaboration with the design-led developer, with practical completion anticipated mid-2025. “Fitzroy is Melbourne’s oldest neighbourhood, characterised by Victorian architecture, vibrant eclecticism, and a bohemian sensibility,” says Woods Bagot Director Peter Miglis. “Gore Street is a deeply sympathetic development, with form and materiality that insinuate seamlessly with the urban fabric. Details in the form – like the concrete corbels and reflect the historic embellishments of the neighbouring terraces, and continue Fitzroy’s legacy of craftsmanship and timeless design.” https://lnkd.in/g_YYSjUb Read more: https://bit.ly/4iDtY8I #multiresidential #peoplearchitecture #piccolohouse

Yesterday, Piccolo, in partnership with Woods Bagot and Hecker Guthrie, marked International Women’s Day 2025 with a gathering that was both thought-provoking and inspiring. We were honoured to hear from Roberta Buchanan, CEO and Lucy Simms, CCO of Women's Property Initiatives who shared valuable insights on the current status of housing for women – a challenge more pressing than ever. Their perspective underscored the importance of collective action in driving meaningful and lasting change. With gender parity still more than a century away at the current rate of progress, the urgency to accelerate change has never been greater. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important conversation. To learn more about how you can help, visit WPI. https://lnkd.in/g4ddaqqv #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction #Piccolo #CommunityImpact

  • Adaptive reuse is all about making old buildings work for today, and it takes the right mix of architectural and engineering expertise to get it right. In Neuron's latest article, Woods Bagot Senior Associate Zie Liu speaks to Neuron's Ben James about how collaboration is key to tackling structural challenges, spatial constraints, and modern performance standards while respecting the building’s past and the client’s expectations. When asked what architectural considerations in adaptive reuse projects stand out most, Liu responded, "It’s all interconnected, isn’t it? Maximising daylight and cross-ventilation, integrating renewable energy, and planning efficient services are all top priorities. Incorporating biophilic elements also enhances both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of spaces." • Central Station has been shortlisted for the 2024 World Architecture News | World Interiors News awards in the Transport category. This category celebrates travelling from A to B in the best possible style, from train stations to transit hubs, car parks to cycle schemes. Woods Bagot Principal and Transport Lead John Prentice says, “The design vision and approach place the customer experience at the centre of the transformation.” “The implementation of open spaces such as the new Northern Concourse roof and finishes and Central Walk significantly improves circulation and station legibility, resulting in a station design that is easy and intuitive for all customers, irrespective of the mode of travel used.” “The new metro and concourse insertions are designed to be purposeful, functional, and sculpturally rich to complement the historic qualities of the original station. The selection of materials establishes the proposals into their local context and provides a civic quality to the new station works,” Prentice adds. • Designed by Woods Bagot for Schools Infrastructure New South Wales, Wentworth Point High School has opened its doors to its first cohort of Year 7 students for Term 1 2025. The six-storey school brings a new model of flexible, urban learning environments to Wentworth Point, designed to grow alongside its rapidly developing neighborhood. The school’s design draws inspiration from its unique location on reclaimed land along the Parramatta River. The architecture thoughtfully reflects the natural elements of earth, horizon, and sky, creating a visual connection to the surrounding landscape. This connection is evident in everything from the earthy base materials to the building’s distinctive façade. Woods Bagot Associate Principal Chris Savva says, “this part of the city has an industrial history, with a flurry of residential high-rise buildings popping up around the site. The school serves as an important social asset that injects life and character into something that could have been quite repetitive amongst the residential towers.” Read more here: https://bit.ly/4iGiYr1 #ArchitectureforWorldsAhead #Education
