Last night, Yfoundations had the privilege of attending our member Southern Youth and Family Services (SYFS) Youth and Family Awards, an event dedicated to recognising and celebrating the incredible achievements of vulnerable young people and families over the past year. SYFS CEO Narelle Clay opened the night with an inspiring speech on the vital role of the not-for-profit sector and the remarkable successes young people can achieve when supported by Specialist Homelessness Services and their partners. The evening was filled with stories of young people realising their potential—true testaments to resilience and growth. The night ended with a powerful performance of “Your Voice Matters,” a song co-written by a group of young people with Dr. Shellie Morris and other exceptional First Nations performers. Congratulations to all involved for such an unforgettable event!

Advocating to end youth homelessness.
About us
Yfoundations is the New South Wales peak body representing children and young people at risk of and experiencing homelessness and provides services that provide direct support to them. With a focus on working closely with young people with a lived experience of homelessness, Yfoundations aims to bridge the gap between the private and not-for-profit sectors. Trish Connolly is the CEO of Yfoundations and is passionate about helping young people out of homelessness through a mixture of advocacy and leadership. Over 28,000 young Australians (age 12-24) are homeless on any given night in Australia. Youth homelessness is increasing at an epidemic rate. In NSW alone youth homelessness has increased at an alarming 92% rate in ten years, with more than 9,000 youths recorded as homeless in the latest Census. Working collaboratively with members, NGOs, government departments and community members, Yfoundations provides policy and structural advocacy, services for young people, health projects, and research and sector development. YFoundations has identified the five foundations below as vital to the growth and development of all children and young people: • Safety and Stability • Home and Place • Health and Wellness • Connections and Participation • Education and Employment Each foundation represents an important component of a child and young person’s developmental process. Yfoundations believe that with access to mechanisms that support the development and attainment of each foundation, a child or young person is more likely to enter adulthood with the skills, interests, competencies and healthy behaviours necessary to realise, and attain their full potential, and build a productive and bright future. The future of Yfoundations is to be the trusted leading voice for youth homeless in NSW striving to increase the current capacity of youth homelessness services and providing expertise to government, state and federal, on the issues of youth homelessness.

Today, the Yfoundations team had the pleasure of spending a productive session with one of our members; the passionate and knowledgeable team at St. Laurence House. Together, we dove into conversations around the development of Good Practice Guidelines, aimed at setting a high standard across the Youth Specialist Homelessness Sector. Our discussions focused on best practices, shared challenges, and opportunities to strengthen the sector's support for young people experiencing homelessness. It's exciting to see such collaborative energy going into creating a framework that will empower service providers and make a real difference in the lives of youth across the community. Thanks to everyone at St. Laurence House for their dedication and invaluable insights – looking forward to seeing the impact of our combined efforts! Today on World Homelessness Day and World Mental Health Day, Yfoundations would like to highlight that 48% of young people who sought homelessness support last year did so while battling mental health challenges. Safe housing isn’t just a place to live—it’s the foundation for mental well-being. Let's work together to ensure every young person has access to the stability they need to thrive. #EndYouthHomelessness #WorldHomelessnessDay #WorldMentalHealthDay
