  • This week we proudly show our support for NAIDOC Week. Together with our employees, we acknowledge and celebrate the rich histories and diverse cultures of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia. As part of Baxter’s NAIDOC Week celebrations at our Old Toongabbie site on Dharug country, members of our Reconciliation@Baxter working group brought in delicious snacks containing traditional indigenous ingredients, including homemade wattle seed damper bread, lemon myrtle tea and macadamia nut cookies. Thank you to our dedicated employees for leading our NAIDOC Week celebrations and continuing to inspire our local teams to deepen their knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Events like this, along with formal educational programs, cultural training workshops and employee on-country experience programs, are integral to the actions set out in Baxter’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and to help advance inclusion and racial justice within the workplace and within the communities and markets we serve, as part of Baxter's global ACT: Activating Change Today initiative. #ThisIsWhere we pride ourselves on the diversity and inclusiveness of our employees and communities. #NAIDOC2024 #BaxterProud #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion

Our Reflect RAP reaffirms our formal commitment to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and aligns with Baxter’s global racial justice initiative, ACT: Activating Change Today. Since launching our first RAP in 2022, we’ve formed strong partnerships and implemented formal programs to educate and inform employees, from cultural training workshops and employee on-country experience programs, to promoting important awareness weeks including National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week. We're continuing on this journey as part of a network of over 3,000 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have made a formal commitment to reconciliation through the Reconciliation Australia RAP program. • We were delighted to invite representatives of the Therapeutic Goods Administration for a recent tour of Baxter’s advanced medical manufacturing plant in Toongabbie, Western Sydney.   As Australia’s largest manufacturer of Australian-made intravenous (IV) solutions, and a major supplier of medicines and medical devices nation-wide, patient safety and quality is Baxter Healthcare’s number one priority and is underpinned by our strict compliance with TGA regulations.   The visit also provided an opportunity to meet with Baxter’s Global Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Lynn Pawelski and discuss key topics relating to quality and safety standards from both a national and international perspective.   Thank you to representatives of the TGA for taking the time to visit our Baxter Toongabbie facility.

  • Thank you to Southern Cross Healthcare for actively participating in our PVC Recycling in Hospitals program, to help reduce waste and promote sustainability throughout the healthcare system. Since 2009, this program has facilitated the recycling of PVC intravenous (IV) fluid bags to produce new commercial-grade products, such as playground matting, garden hoses and gumboots. In 2023 alone, Baxter partnered with more than 280 hospitals across Australia and New Zealand to divert over 140 tonnes of PVC IV fluid bags away from landfill.

From providing lifesaving fluids during surgery, to a new life giving children a safe landing in playgrounds, PVC IV bags are now being recycled at all 10 Southern Cross Hospitals around Aotearoa. Southern Cross Healthcare’s Head of Environmental, Social and Governance Greg Nelson says 4.25 tonnes of plastics were recycled during 2023. "It’s amazing to think all this plastic, which otherwise would’ve gone into landfill, can now help to keep children safe and create new spaces beyond the operating theatre.”   Baxter International Inc., the supplier of the IV bags, covers the costs of recycling and Greg says it’s a win-win situation for everyone.
