Educators play a key role in supporting children or young people who may be questioning their gender identity; by providing a safe place where diversity is acknowledged, respected and embraced, the entire community is strengthened. Members of LGBTQIA+ communities may experience much higher rates of mental health distress due to exclusionary and discriminatory practices. Inclusion and inclusive practices promote belonging, protect the rights of children and young people, and foster mental health and wellbeing. For Be You, inclusion focuses on the opportunity for everyone to be who they are and to achieve their best mental health. It is also time where educators, schools and early learning services find themselves adapting to new entrants, and responding to their needs. Be You’s Fact Sheets provide educators with the resources to understand behaviours, develop new relationships, and support children and young people through successful transitions; no matter what year level.
