About us

Curtin University is a world-leader in research commercialisation and the development of high value technology based startup companies. Curtin's legacy in innovation and entrepreneurship has been achieved through a long term commitment to fostering Western Australia's innovation ecosystem, playing a key role in policy and program development, ecosystem building, and defining new career and business pathways for researchers and entrepreneurs. Through our programs Curtin Ignition and Curtin Accelerate, we provide a bedrock for researchers and individuals to validate their innovative product or service through access to business leaders and market expertise; Curtin Kickstart provides the necessary funding to enable venture startup and scale up; whilst our Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship team provides expert advice and mentorship to support founders on their growth journey. Our team provides input on Curtin University's curriculum with nearly 2000 entrepreneurial units now offered by the University. We also contribute to the student experience providing unique opportunities such as the Global Pitching Competition and Student Startup Weekend to inspire young minds to pursue a career in technology and innovation. The Australian Government recognised Curtin University’s strengths in research commercialisation, awarding the institution and its partners $50 million to transform the way research commercialisation outcomes as part of the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer program. The annual West Tech Fest founded by Curtin University in 2012 brings together the wider Australian startup and innovation ecosystem with over 4,000 attendees representing all aspects of technology, innovation, investment and entrepreneurship congregating for the festival in Perth each year. Our efforts have resulted in $215 million in product and service sales generated; $201 million in follow on funding raised; and more than 400 startup concepts explored.
