BHFF Junior Scholars Passion Project: Biotech Forum 2025 This project brought together enthusiasts, students, and professionals from various fields, ranging from biotechnology and medicine to physics and engineering. 💛 💙A huge thank you to IPI Akademija, which supported us by providing space and technical equipment. The Biotech Forum 2025 focused on AI, engineering, and medical technology from leading experts: 🔹Alma Šećerbegović dr. sc., Senior Mechanical Engineer at HTEC, spoke about the application of AI/ML in medical technology, emphasizing how artificial intelligence goes beyond generative models and brings revolutionary changes in the development of medical software. 🔹Velid Dlakic, an electrical and electronics engineer specializing in embedded systems and industrial automation, presented an automated prediction of medical device performance using AI models. 🔹Mr. Phys. Melika Damadzic, a medical physicist specializing in radiotherapy, introduced us to the application of physics in radiotherapy, explaining how cyclotrons and linear accelerators (LINAC) enable the precise targeting of ionizing radiation for medical purposes. A special thank you to Demir Halilbašić, Amina Jahić, Alen Musovic, Sergej Bajić, Tarik Mešanović and Sanjin Halilhodzic for representing our Foundation and introducing attendees to the incredible opportunities to get involved within BHFF. We brought together the Bosnia & Herzegovina professional community in the heart of Silicon Valley, for an afternoon of networking, knowledge sharing, and reconnecting with our roots. With over 30 attendees from diverse industries, the event highlighted the strength and success of our people in the Bay Area. Given that Silicon Valley is the global hub of innovation and technology, it was no surprise that many of the attendees were experts in engineering, AI, cybersecurity, and software development, working at some of the most renowned tech companies. However, the meetup also welcomed professionals from finance, healthcare, and other fields, making it a truly multidisciplinary gathering. What made this event even more special was the presence of multiple generations of Bosnians—from those who immigrated to the U.S., bringing their expertise and ambition, to first-generation Bosnian-Americans, who are carrying forward the spirit of innovation and excellence. This blend of experiences and perspectives made for engaging discussions on career growth, community building, and opportunities for collaboration. The gathering was a testament to the power of community, connection, and shared identity, proving once again that no matter where we are in the world, Bosnians continue to thrive, innovate, and support one another. We have agreed to organise another meetup and sustain the networking. A big thank you to everyone who joined—we look forward to many more meetups in the future! Our 2024 Vera Šnajder Award winner, Hana Babic, used her grant to attend the EMBL Software Carpentry Course in Heidelberg 🔬💻 As a final-year biology student, Hana knew that coding and data analysis would be crucial in modern research. At EMBL - home to one of Europe’s largest gene databases, Hana gained hands-on experience with Python, Git, and Nextflow, essential tools for reproducible and collaborative research. 💡 Key takeaways from her journey: ✅ Learning from experts and engaging with PhD candidates, postdocs, and PIs ✅ Understanding the power of computational tools in biology ✅ Realizing that she belongs in this space—even as an early-stage researcher 👩🔬 Encouraging Women in STEM Hana was thrilled to see equal gender representation in the course, a strong signal that computational sciences are becoming more inclusive.
